Random Rants

Google have still failed to ship my phone. I've just been having a chat to one of their customer support minions, and apparently my order has gone to the warehouse for fulfilment, but no delivery dates have been given.
Interestingly enough, they're not levying GST on the sale, which is a pain as I'm registered for the tax and so could claim it back. I think that it's because:
-
Google don't like paying tax at all.
-
The sale is being booked through their Singapore tentacle, and so is effectively a personal import into Australia.
However, due to the "Australia Tax" that companies levy, the cost of a Nexus 6P with 128 GB of memory is $1099, and the tax free limit for imports is $1000. That means the phone should be liable for duties and GST when it lands.
So either Google have been badly advised, or they're trying to pull a fast one.

I would suggest the latter!

@den213:
I keep hearing the new Star Wars movie is great. Hype?
I know one person who hated it and eight people (including myself) who thoroughly enjoyed it.

I thought it was thoroughly entertaining, captured the feeling of Star Wars far better than any of the last trilogy, but if you think about the story too much you will realise it was utter shit really. Entertaining shit.

Episode 7 is a good Disney-Movie. Besides 1 annoying character it´s a nice and entertaining movie. Much much better than Episode 1-3.

Thoughts match mine almost identically. WAY to similar story to Ep IV.

enjoyed it for what it was. walked away thinking Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford just wanted one more movie before they died.
-
I wasn't too impressed by The Force Awakens:
-
There were plot holes you could fly a Star Destroyer through.
-
It was never entirely clear what the political situation was, nor what the First Order wanted.
-
It felt too beholden to the original trilogy. Though the prequels were much maligned, they at least tried to be their own thing.
I'm curious to see what Rian Johnson does in Episode VIII, as Looper was an interesting film. Of course it'll turn out that Finn is actually a younger Lando and Mace Windu, and who's been experiencing the Star Wars saga in reverse order.

for me, i did not like them restarting the whole star wars franchise again. did not bother at all.
-
What do you mean, the prequels? I'm personally sort of disappointed to have to forget everything from the expanded universe novels and comics that I loved in middle school/high school. All of the post-return of the Jedi timeline is getting replaced. I still like the newest movie, but I'm enough of a dork to have a hard time erasing the old continuity and stories

Try being a Batman fan, happens every 5 years

@Megatron1505 that's why i prefer Marvel over DC..
@sabergirl what i meant was, i like how return of the jedi "ended", them defeating the dark side and so on, goodness was restored. like it was a good happy ending to a movie, especially since i watched it when i was a kid, the end. so didn't really look forward to this.
-
Ah, I see. But I was always curious about what happened after. I guess I always just wanted more Star Wars. And I still do.
I hear you about Batman, Mega. That's been rough. Marvel had done a pretty good job with their continuity, although Hulk…
