Gents:
I Recently procured two pair of stock Alden cap-toes (style# 2160 and 972). Given that my place of work is on the casual side, I took them to my cobbler to customize and "dress them down." I had him strip the black edges for a more neutral edge, apply exposed brass eyelets, and apply a rubber half sole. Here are some pics:2160 Before:

Pigs may fly this year, I agree with @Finn666
Great looking shoes & ballsy move to do that to the shoes

Can see it away from work.
When I'm at work I can't see it.
Nice shoes by the way.
Anyone preorder the LeatherSoul x SelfEdge Aldens?

Yeah it's a shame. I didn't see anything about them either until I was on the Leather Soul site trolling for a pair of boots.
I see a lot of very similar make-ups from Japan town, but they are usually as expensive as a virgin in a whore house.

Can everybody else see that pic from the prior post? Coming up on my screen… hmm
i do wonder why i can't. it has that similar no entry sign..

Stripped edges and brass eyelets? Definite improvement if so, and makes them look more like the expensive handmade shoes that they are. For me, black edges are synonymous with generic mass-produced shoes, and would never be my choice, however I would allow that they have their place with formal dress shoes of a certain type.
