don't know what the hell I ate yesterday but I contracted some funky stomach bug and woke up in the middle of the night in excruciating pain.
Once told my doctor I was in excruciating pain, and he told me I had no right to use that word as I had never been shot.
self righteous and dismissive id say. perception is reality. you were in excruciating pain. who is hey to say otherwise.
i know a guy who got shot and didnt feel much pain. bullet is still there. too close to the heart to remove. through his arm and rib cage. into his chest cavity.

I routinely see people self-reporting pain as 10, on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the worst pain you can imagine. I see that as a failure of imagination.

what if its the worst they've ever felt or been in?

indeed. my gut pain lastnight was enough to wake me from a deep sleep and it came outta nowhere. However, I went to the dentist this past Monday for a cleaning and that was mildly painful – uncomfortable would be more appropriate. There's nothing like having a dental hygenist poke and prod your gums for an hour. good times

correct ^ i dont think you did at all. docs bedside manner was the issue i would say.

Corrupt hard drive? Do you use Time Machine?
Turned out the hard rive was ok and the update just didn't go to plan. All sorted with the update and I got him to put a new screen on it too.
Time machine is on the cards now.

Meh…
I think people over qualify things too much, so I side with the doctor.
10 would be "totally unbearable, pass out from the shock of the pain".
I think I've never felt above a 5, MAYBE a 6. Unfortunately, when I gives an honest 5 rating, the doctors think "He's fine", and send me home because everyone else over exaggerates

Exactly. So when someone strolls in to the doctor's office, busily texting away, then says their pain is a nine, I'm thinking they haven't really put much thought into what the most pain imaginable is.

The past few exchanges I’ve had with customer service via email have led to me having to repeat or slightly rephrase my problem over and over again. If your job is to troubleshoot problems in writing, taking the time to read is a huge part of that.

I'm offshore working 16-18 hour days right now and on an average, I've been seeing 5-10 of these bastards every day:
That’s a rather large non commercial fishing boat. 65 footer about? Where offshore are you?
