No handwarmers IMO.
The majority is acting like it's a must have, but it's obviously not since the original, far cleaner designs lacked them.
The ancients, in their wisdom, realized that you have pockets for that already on your jeans and that a short rider's jacket would only be needlessly mucked up by the superfluous pockets:
-
i have this habit of sticking both hands in pockets of jacket while wearing them and from my experience in wearing the 101J, i find a lack of pockets annoying. i use the jacket during the daytime in winter and having worn other jackets throughout winter with pockets, i wished the 101J come with pockets even though it may not have been the case with the OG design..
it's this thing where you're so used to doing while wearing a jacket and suddenly while wearing the 101J, you realise there's not pockets and you just need to stick your hands somewhere..
-
Fair enough. Though I retain my stance on the matter, if the pockets could at least be hidden behind the outermost vertical seams, it would make for a much cleaner appearance that could perhaps satisfy both camps.

Same. I have 2 of PBJ's type 2's and they lack interior pockets and exterior handwarmer pockets. I think they've recently added a few models with handwarmer pockets but mine are essentially useless without them.

I see on the Lee site that they do some Riders with handwarmers, and to my mind it changes the neat, clean, v-shaped look quite significantly, making it baggier at the waist.
Assuming IH go with the vast majority here, let's hope they can make a better job of it, with stealth pockets hopefully hidden in the seams.
-
Lee and Levi's both relented to popular opinion and added handwarmers to their riders over time, which is one reason I have vintage editions of them from each maker. So it's not a repro thing at all.
I just don't the use them, as on short jackets they are awkwardly high. So it's something superfluous to me that looks bad and gets worse with evo.
Contrast that versus a hoodie or a shacket where the pockets are lower and I actually use them. I love them on my IHSH-49, for example. Much, much lower than a traditional rider cut.
To each his own!

No handwarmers imo.

Can you do tonal handwarmers for the stormrider? I like the functionality but prefer the look of the classic. But overall my vote is yes
-
If we do hand warmers, they will be tonal, they will not be integrated into the outer front vertical seam (sorry @mclaincausey )
-
No skin off my back, I have the correct design already

was thinking about this earlier…
would love a more classic, but still IH styled button down. Single pocket on the left chest, regular collar and maybe some heavier buttons depending on fabric. Could work with lighter chambrays for summer and heavier canvas for fall/winter, almost like a mechanic shirt.
-
Are you all talking about pockets? Cuz if you are please now and forever after refer to them as pockets. Hand warmers are those little hot packets full of magic dust that heat activate when they hit the air. Thank you
-
Lol. "Hand warmer" as in differentiating them from "chest" pockets. "Bilateral lower abdomen" pockets doesn't have the same ring.

Sounds like the IHSH-165, which had to go on clearance. Probably not a good sign, even though it's a fantastic shirt. That one was also herringbone, which never seems to sell well, so maybe that style in a different fabric could work.

Storm Rider - Final Decision
18oz Vintage Denim
Blanket Lined
Khaki Corduroy Collar
Tonal Stitched Handwarmers
Khaki Corduroy Pocket Bags
Bronze Coloured HardwareWe asked H about pockets set into outer front vertical seams. "Bad Idea!" he answered before Sarina even had a chance to translate. When asked to explain he said, they would be too far forward to make decent sized pockets (especially on the smaller sizes) and there is a tendency for them to get stretched and thus spoil the line of the jacket….
-
I use handwarmer inners as a pocket for my phone. Will that be possible if blanket lined?
Also, will the lining be stitched into the hem or loose as Lee seems to do on the more expensive ones?
