Bitch Please… FAKE Iron Heart?

Looks like this eBay shop is tied to these guys…who are also in China - https://www.instagram.com/bronsonmfg/

Another eBay find. These look like the above overalls, but the seller is in Philadelphia rather than https://www.ebay.com/itm/IRON-HEART-17OZ-DUCK-DOUBLE-KNEE-OVERALLS-PANTS/283671598036?hash=item420c2513d4:g:BXUAAOSwJAxdyDyh
The patch is the thing that caught my eye- the font for the lot number and size isn’t consistent with what is on the product page. The sewing looks wrong too, going off the edges vs stopping before the edge is reached. That’s about all I can tell. Seller has some nice detail shots, but neither the product page nor the forum do. Maybe @Giles can comment?
Hopefully ignorance on part of the seller if they are indeed fakes. Only selling one pair vs many in different sizes offered by the ones above. The price caught my eye too, though I know people are sometimes apt to start with no reserve in hopes the bids will drive up the final cost. -
Fake. The IH-809 was a pair of denim pants…

They also look heavily washed (more so than ours), but the patch is new....

I'm pretty sure this has to be a fake. Has anyone ever seen a fake CPO? I compared and contrasted it to all the images of this shirt on the Iron Heart page. There are some features/subtle details that seem correct, but the side seem stitching is just horrible. I would assume there is no way Iron Heart would sell a shirt, even as a "factory second", with stitching as incorrect as this. I bought this off eBay and wasn't really worried due to the fact it was being sold in Montana and the Iron Heart CPO seems like it would be an unlikely item to counterfeit…

@Colinrado - not seeing the shirt in person so to speak and not having a "legit shirt" to compare it with I offer my words / thoughts tentatively. You bought this shirt on eBay so I'm guessing it was "used"? If this is the case it could be an example of really bad tailoring the shirt via the side seams to make it more fitted for the previous owner.
-
@Colinrado , I'm going to agree with @den1mhead . It looks like a botched(butchered, is more like it !)tailoring job.
-
@Colinrado The triple stitching on the shoulder suggests it is an IHSH-76. Finding one in such good nick, without fading etc. Would seem almost strange. They stopped being made about three years ago. Did the seller specify a model?
The chest pocket, labels, yoke stitching and denim, all look ok, based on the photos.
I’d concur with the gents though, it’s likely a botched aftermarket tailoring job. The big giveaway is that the IHSH-76 and the IHSH-177 (and IHSH-140 for that matter) all have selvedge sidegussets and these are gone here. Taking in the shirt while preserving the gussets is a tricky job. Looks like the tailor has just cut them out and restitched badly. I think I can see some of the original gusset stitching left on one shot. Also the side pocket is way too close to the side seam.
If this is a 76 then I strongly suspect that if you measure your one and compare with the IH table, there will be differences in the chest, waist and opening.
-
Yeowza. Did the seller not disclose the hack job that the shirt went under? Wrong thread, sewed by a tailor with parkinsons, and the gusset loss?! Hopefully you wont have any issues with the seller taking it back.

The last time I sewed was in 7th grade Home Ec. I'm pretty sure I could have done an equally good job.
The good news is the shirt, like others have said, is real IH. So if it fits and you don't feel ripped off with what you paid I say wear it. If you paid at more the normal level of secondary market price and the seller didn't disclose, and/or the hack job is driving you crazy enough you now have a bad taste in your mouth, I would probably send back/report the sale.

Thanks for the replies. The explanation makes perfect sense. Seller was a "second hand" reseller in Montana, so it is doubtful he even noticed it. Prob didn't even know how legendary of a garment he was selling. I'm returning it so be on the lookout for this shirt for sale on Ebay again. Can't believe someone ruined this beautiful garment, took prob the best stitching/tailoring in the world and turned it into that?!?!? Stitching heavy weight denim ain't for amateurs…
-
Just to play devil's advocate here, but if you like the shirt otherwise and the fit isn't bad, you could probably take it to a competent tailor and get the side seams redone so that they look professional. Might be worthwhile for a short that's a bit more difficult to find.
And on the plus side, you'd be hard pressed to make it worse…

Another questionable pair of overalls on eBay:

And not to definitively call out this seller, but they do have a whole lot of stuff up from various manufacturers, a lot of it “new” without tags, and it all different sizes, and at too good to be true prices… I know people are doing closet clean outs with the ‘rona, but I’d expect items to all be in single size (like small), or adjacent sizes (small/medium), not running the full gamut.
Of course, it is possible that they bought different sizes of the same thing but never wore either and are just now trying to sell them. They do have a pretty high rating. -
Hard to tell if it is brand new. It could be a display item. The seller could also be doing a consignment or he is buying a bunch of slightly used goods and flipping them for profits.
-
I was actually getting nauseous as my eyes were following that stitching down the shirt in the photos.
-
I’m not disputing that it’s new or not, but it has the same patch as the Chinese made fake IH overalls discussed in previous pages. The font is wrong if you compare it to the one shown on the product page.
It certainly is possible that the seller is consigning items for others, or flipping. Just interesting that they have the same Toys McCoy T-shirt twice, in two different sizes, both new, and for half of what I can find at retail in Japan. How many of those shirts exist in the world? -
Has anyone ever seen a fake 33? I ask because I bought one used and one of the pockets is a bit crooked
-
I have not seen a fake. But there was one batch of 33's where some of the pockets were not perfectly aligned and no one noticed through 3 sets of QC. Funnily enough some people loved it whist overs hated it. Not trying to excuse the imperfection, but in the main, no one will ever notice a slightly pissed pocket…..
