Watches - another OCD problem
-
I don't see the point in owning a dress watch, but something like a Nautilus, Overseas, or Datejust would be durable enough to cope with day-to-day life, and would also fit in with formal dress on the odd occasions that's needed.
Thus why I rock a vintage DJ dude.

Was at a large Rolex AD this weekend. They have 80 spots for watches. They had 10 in stock. They said world wide shortage. I assume covid related. Secondary market is nuts. Agree, good to see Ex 1 at 36. Had a 39. Proportions were just off.

I like that pistachio green dial Breitling and the white dial Panerai.
I don't love the palm dial Rolex. I wonder how many of those the company is going to sell?

You're asking the wrong question @Chris. You should be asking how many will be worn.
Rolex will sell thousands of the palm dials, only most will remain in the speculators' safes and continue to appreciate in value because of their perceived rarity.

So much heat in these last few pages, dang!! That downsized big pilot has really got a lot going for it. I love the originals but when I tried one out a few years back it was HUGE on my wrist and I am not a small fella. The small one would be hard for me to resist if I happen across one with the right/wrong amount of lubricants in the system…
-
@Graeme ironically, by discontinuing the nautilus. it's made it more dominant than everything else..
-
you're a good friend indeed @Giles
Absolutely beautiful watches and you are doing nothing to squash my desire to own one!!

Although I've just seen the IWC Big Pilot XPL at aBlogToWatch, and that might be my new, favourite version. Shames it's $83K…
-
Yeah, it's large, but not in a bad way IMHO….
Wearing it for a friend
Very nice! That fits perfectly on your wrist and doesn’t look big at all - it would look like a clock on me though. Very excited for the 43mm version…hopefully they aren’t impossible to get at retail prices.

More new releases from Watches and Wonders.
Nomos are onboard the coloured dial trend with the Club Campus.
So are Oris, who have been copying Rolex's Stella dials for the Divers Cotton Candy.
And Darth Vader for the AquisPro.
TAG Heuer have a new Aquaracer.
The Tudor Black Bay 58 is now available in silver, which looks pretty cool.
There's also a new Black Bay chronograph with white or black panda dials.

IWC tend to be pretty easy to get at retail, and the Big Pilot 43 is a standard model, so I wouldn't foresee any problems. It's not like trying to secure a Rolex…

I'm digging all this newfound appreciation for color. It's a nice change of pace. That does bring up a personal peeve- I don't like when the date wheel doesn't match the dial color. It just looks cheap and/or lazy, especially on something like the Big Pilot with the jumbo date.
That panda Tudor is great, though.
-
@Chris 100% agree with everything you just stated! Date wheel not matching dial is just bonkers and anytime I see it happen it instantly kills the rest of the watch for me!!
-
Nomos has been doing some cool color combos for the Club line for a while now, these look like they fit in well. A bunch of posts back I saw you posted about a smaller GO diver, now that is lovely!
I love all the GS buzz in this thread and some day I want to own another. I have to say though that my Snowflake made me paranoid after I had it for a few years. I’ve heard servicing a SD movement is slow and expensive AF. I still love them but sold mine for something else.

Whilst I agree with @Chris that the trend for coloured dials is good, I'd argue that the Big Pilot with the big date works with the contrast against the dial as it's drawing attention to the feature.
That said, the Bucherer Blue version looks really sharp. Shame they didn't got with a cermet case and crown to really make it stealth.

Picked this up today. Switched the strap for a nato. So happy!
