IH-888S-21 - 21oz Selvedge Denim Medium/High Rise Tapered Cut Jeans - Indigo

Hey gang,
I’m going back and forth between 29 and 30. My preferred thigh measurement is 12 to 12.5. Given these are sanforized and one washed, the 12.1 (of the 30s) may stretch past 12.5, but the 11.7 (of the 29s) may not stretch to 12. Anything below 12 is just too tight. I had a pair of IH B&S UHRs which shrunk just below 12 and I eventually had to give them up because they did not yield at all (and were amazingly unbreathable).
I read somewhere in here that 1/2 inch of stretch in the thighs was possible. As long as the waist stretches beyond 30.5, no problem there.
Any thoughts? Thanks

Hi @Cali, I have sadly played the „thigh game“ many times (with several fabrics, NOT the 21OZ though), and my main finding is that „never bet on thigh stretch“ is the way to go.
Yes, the 21OZ is stretchy, but while stretching a waist is a fairly natural process (just get the top button closed and you’re good), stretching a thigh can be very frustrating (if it even works, I’ve failed multiple times).
I’d rather see if I could get measures and pick the 30 with the smallest or 29 with the biggest thigh.
That’s just my two cents, I hope this helps. Maybe others have successfully stretched 21OZ thighs though and can give you better advise

I have never had a pair of jeans without tight thighs. Doesn’t matter the cut, men’s jeans, women’s, whatever—always starts fitting snug. That’s just the way my body is built with waist vs. thigh dimensions. I find that between 0.25-0.5” of stretch is just what happens under these conditions.
IH 21oz. denim is pretty forgiving. That said, if your ideal thigh is between 12-12.5, I would still go with the 30, otherwise it will be an uncomfortable ride to get some stretch only to arrive at a fit that may not be ideal anymore if you gain even a little weight.

Hi. A question for all of you. I’m in the market for my first pair of good jeans. Wore stretchy jeans for the last bunch of years. Wearing Levy’s 501’s now which I like the look of and fit great in the waist (33) but I need more room in the thighs because the crotch pulls too much and the thighs are pretty snug while sitting. I was told to have a look at the 888’s because my thighs are on the bigger side but not huge. My thighs are about 23.5 inches. I’m looking at the tag size 34 because that seems like the correct waist size for me. The thing is, depending on where you look the thighs are 13.3 inches. That seems huge. Are they supposed to fit very loose? They don’t look to be that loose in the pics in the beginning of the thread. Also, Selfedge has them listed as 12.5 in the thighs. 12.5 actually seems like the correct size but not sure what is right. Any thoughts? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I will try. Selfedge and Iron Heart measure the thigh in a different way. Selfedge measures an inch below the croch seam while Iron heart measures right at the croch plus the little extra from the back side. The end result is that the Selfedge measurements are usually 0.5 of an inch smaller than the Iron Heart way. The best advice i can give is, to measure a pair of jeans that you have using the Iron Heart how to measure instructions listed, and compare..

Ok. That makes more sense. Measuring that way makes the 888’s bigger than what I’m currently wearing but not crazy big. Thanks. Can I assume the waist will stretch out about an inch?

More like 2 inches if you need them to. I sized down to 34 (which had a starting measurement of 33.6) and they stretched out to 36 (my true waist).

I really appreciate this forum. Come to ask a question, look, and my exact question has just been answered already.
Thanks @jmceachern too for apparently being around the same size as me!

??? What is this alchemy… Have I found a cut that actually fits...? How are they so soft straight out of the bag? What the hell is this?
Can I get a quick fit check to confirm that I'm not going crazy here before I start wearing them properly. The waist feels great while the top block and thighs feel nice and roomy even with all my crap in my pockets. Waist feels a little snug when seated, but doesn't feel like anything a day or two's wear wont fix.
What do you guys and gals think of the fit? (Sorry if front, side and rear shots is overkill.)
I think I get it. I think I understand IH now.

Not overkill… just being thorough!
Glad you’ve found something that works. The 888 is a flexible fit that works for many people, often in different ways. These look great on you.
The 21oz will stretch in the waist meaningfully so the tightness there is welcome at this point.

Thanks @Dmart and @neph93. I've cut the tags off!
I can squat down, bend over and do lunges in these no problem. It's unreal. I've never been able to do that this comfortably with a pair that actually fit at the waist before (because the thighs and top block would be too tight).
Just no one tell Mrs H that I bought another pair of jeans…

These are my first pair of IH jeans, I just cut the tags off too. It's nice to finally find a pair of quality jeans that fit so well.
The wife also approves of how they look so that's a big win.
