Who Skates?
-
Stopped by Vanish Farm Brewing this afternoon. These decks brought back a lot of memories.

What's up IH rippers?
Haven't really met anyone over the years that I skate with that are into denim and all of these associated fine goods. Anyone know of any cross over? My big hope is that someone makes some premium skate shoes. Good materials, sourced in a good way, nice factories. All of that.
In the mean time I skate Last Resorts which I could see potentially going more in that direction over time.Check out Gilbert Crockett's company Cee Blues. USA made Selvedge denim https://ceebluesstore.com/?product_cat=cee-blues

@TheKingHarvest - thanks for the post dude! Gilbert is totally down with the raw denim. In his segment in Propeller, he's actually rocking some Mister Freedom Gunslingers in a few frames if I recall correctly.
Last Resorts would have been my suggestion, however Sonders Supplies actually stocks some Japanese Skate shoes from Possessed in collaboration with Radiall. Here -> https://www.sondersupplies.com/products/conquista-low-top-sneaker-grey?_pos=21&_fid=c1194c59b&_ss=c&variant=39672649056437
With that said, Posessed also do a full range of cow suede skate shoes, highs and lows.
If I skate, I've either wearing Vans, Cons or SBs (Dunks are my preferred, but due to the recent rage, can only afford to destroy Blazers lol)
-
Woah good eye on the Mister Freedoms! Gotta go back and watch that part today.
Never heard of Possessed. That is super cool. Need to try some of those.Blazers were my go to for years until I started skating the Last Resorts. They probably still are my favorite shoe to skate, but good to switch up sometimes…
-
@TheKingHarvest - what set ups are you skating right now?
I'm about to really push for both my kids to learn, get better this spring/summer by frequenting the local park.
that means dad deserves a new set up as well - so looking for inspiration
-
@Appfaff that is great. I love seeing families skating together.
I always skate indys, and have been using spitfire formula 4s for awhile. I like the Bones STF wheels as well.
I have been going through and identity crisis with decks. After coming back from an injury I haven't been able to find a new shape that I really like. What seems to be trendy now are these longer boards with a wider wheel base, huge square nose. That is the FA boards, quasi, and a couple other brands. I can't really skate those. Mostly I have been skating DLX boards. Usually Real 8.3-8.5 width. But still looking for something that feels good right now.
For cruising and messing around I have 9.25 Egg shaped board from Primitive. Some tricks are bit harder but the boards are super fun. Frank Vilani crushes with those things.
-
Too funny! I just took my shaped deck with the industrial trucks had eroded the hanger gaskets out - and threw my Ricta clouds on my 8.75 Hockey deck.
These Hockey / FA boards are my absolute favorite shape since Baker changed up their tapered popsicles.
My daughter has her own deck that she chose from the local skate shop:
She actually kicked and cruised with no support for the first time today. I need to get her on some super smooth flat ground to really gain some confidence, as the asphalt roads in our hood are super crowned and pretty rough.
My son is a slower learner and doesn’t have a ton of interest outside his bike and scooter, but hoping to get him a set up so he’s inspired to start too.
I think I might try for a Polar Shaped deck next, or even perhaps a hockey that’s closer to 8.25 - I do have a hard time wielding the 8.75 deck, especially when it’s weighed down with classic Indy’s.

Tony Hawk makes some boards for Walmart. They’re $30. Perfect for my girls for Easter. I’m very excited for them to get their first boards. My first was a Nash Executioner. I was always embarrassed around the other kids with their legit whips. At least my kids will get a “Tony Hawk.”
I have a pic of the bday when I got it somewhere. I’ll try to find it.

Adam…that is awesome!!! I have two girls myself and definitely understand leotards and tutu's.
Thanks for sharing!
Isn't it great!!! She is equal parts sass and bad-ass

Heck yeah man! Another great option is the Braille boards. There is an "Over 30S skateboarders" group on FB and people say nice things about those. For kids the deck and trucks don't matter much, especially if you can swap the bearings out for some $12 Shake Junt or Bones Reds and get a smoother riding board. I was impressed that you can still get blank Powell Wheels and cheap abec 3 bearings for like $30 bucks total at local shops.

Love the pics with the Nash Board.
Been a great week for skate videos
