Random Rants

Bože…
My friend!
Hey, when finally you will be on Dbk, order a taxi and take a trip to a very nice beach. Sveti-Jakov. Lokrum island on your left. The old city right front of you. One kind of sunsetthere is a family restaurant there. Konoba. The owner is a bit crazy but definitely a gentle one. Don Blaženko.
Order a table in advance and a nice fish to grill. Skorpion one or a Saint-Pierre. Start with a cold beer. Half liter. And white vine to the fish. And enjoy this precious place[emoji6][emoji41] very precious one.Envoyé de mon iPhone en utilisant Tapatalk

Thanks for the tips you’ve been giving me @hajduk !
Still no luggage for us. They’ve finally sent my wife’s bag via Paris to Dubrovnik. It arrives after we were planning on sailing to Hvar. We’re just gonna have to stick around because we don’t want to invite more opportunity for mishaps.
My bag? Not sure how the more distinctive of the two bags got separated from its partner (then again, I’m also not understanding how the bags got separated from the travelers to begin with), but the latest update says it’s at Carousel 7 in Newark. This bag has all my clothing, a lot of it irreplaceable, but more immediately urgent, also all of the kid’s stuff. At this point I just want them to hold the damn thing in Newark so I can retrieve on my way home.
We did have a fantastic meal overlooking the Adriatic at Orhan, steps from our lodging. My wife had the tuna and I the amberjack, caught in the sea nearby. They were prepared simply and were absolutely delicious. Great beef carpaccio to start and a couple of bottles of delicious, local white wine. This meal felt like the turning point of our vacation morale-wise and eased tensions that had built up between my wife and me amidst all of the stress.
But just to make sure it’s out of my system: fuck you, United.

And fucked yet another time. My wife’s bag was allegedly to arrive from Frankfurt on a flight that just landed. We are on a tight timeline to get to the final ferry to Hvar so she went down to get the bag. Didn’t arrive. So they allegedly will send hers to Hvar. They refuse to hold my bag in Newark to grab on the way back home, so I have requested it be shipped back to my house.
Absolute nightmare.
I hope we make our ferry.

@mclaincausey Pro tip: Find a local florist and buy your wife her favourite flower/s. Doesn't have to be a extravagant, just a simple love you…
It sucks that her dream vacation is turning into a nightmare...
-
Yep that’s good advice and thank you. I don’t think we will ever see either bag again. Lots of irreplaceable items too. Some IH, the Triple Aught duffel is no longer made, etc etc. it’s just a shocking level of incompetence and unaccountability that’s mostly ruined the first half of the vacation and made it fall short of the expectation of de stressing and reconnecting with my family. At this point I think we’ve done all we can and are just going to make the most of what time we have left.
On the ferry to Hvar now, then Split, then Cavtat, then home. I hope that we can still hit that reset button we so dearly need after so long without a vacation.
-
wow that's a bit hectic. hope everything gets better for the rest of your holiday

Thanks @sabergirl and @louisbosco we are trying. But I can sense my wife feels like her dream vacation is ruined and it breaks my heart. Not getting the reset we needed from all of the stress in our lives. Today we will really make a go of it and see if we can shake the bad luck.
To update on the luggage, the tracker is saying my wife’s luggage went from Newark to Paris to Dubrovnik (which was the plan when we tried to get it yesterday and it wasn’t there), then, for some reason, to Frankfurt. It’s just something to laugh at at this point. They still have no clue where my bag is. Again, gonna try to laugh that off too. Sometimes a smile starts from the outside. I call that “aspirational smiling” and it can work

try to enjoy the moment and place where you are at now. get the basic necessities you need and focus on what you can control. Worry about the things you can't control when you get home
️

Exactly so my friend—great advice and I am trying to live it at this point. A shame it took several days to get here, but that’s a lesson. Cheers @louisbosco and enjoy Spa tomorrow!

@mclaincausey I get the (extreme) frustration over a whole load of stuff that should never have happened (and I'm happy you have somewhere you can vent). But … you're in a beautiful place with people you love, so try and enjoy what you've got! Everything else is secondary (and hopefully can be fixed when you're back home).

That’s the plan and it’s going swimmingly! Was supposed to storm today but another great beach and pool day with a special surprise guest.
One down, one to go on day 7
Last night, I tossed my wallet onto the table at dinner for my wife to pay for the meal while I chased a quickly melting down daughter. My wife never saw the wallet. So we make it all the way up the hill back to the resort and figure out what happened. My wife sprinted back to the restaurant after I called and they said no one saw it. My wife, God bless me, was relentless and found it in the laundry bin. Big hug from our wonderful waiter (Mediterraneo in Hvar City. Great meal and service).
Last bag lands in Split in an hour. A couple of ferry opportunities for us to get the last bag today.
-
@mclaincausey at least your pilots didn't get into a fight (I hope):
Hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday!

Thanks mate!
We are now reunited with both bags in Split, looking back and laughing at how well we WOULD have been prepared had they made it. Probably gonna have to gift some diapers
Getting to the catamaran and then the lodging with all of the various and sundry bags accrued to support a family of 3 since two Carey ons don’t do it was a slog. It hasn’t rained here in Split in weeks but we had to run with all our gear to only mildly get sprayed.
We have all these damn bags we accrued while only having our carry-ons, so some consolidation to occur on the other side of some well-deserved rest. We love Split so far and look forward to exploring, then Cavtat, then home.

@mclaincausey See you logged on…how is/was the rest of the trip?
-
It was amazing! Pics to come elsewhere but we made it back. Our challenges never ended, but the trip was truly amazing and we will be back. Probably sans child next time
Here’s a pic for our own @hajduk from the end of the block our apartment was on in Split. We absolutely loved Split, Cavtat, and Hvar Town and enjoyed Dubrovnik a great deal but were somewhat hampered in our exploration by the topic of my rant and other factors. I think next time we want to do Dalmatia we will use Split as the base of operations to explore the region and islands near there. We wound up renting a car one way from Split back to Cavtat, then the airport, as the ferry would have been longer and we’d already spent a lot of time on ferries. Worked out perfectly, got to see more of the beautiful country and stop for a great meal along the way.

@mclaincausey …sans child leads to more child...
