Had a follow up session at my hospital today. It’s a generational complex, much of brand new, a large amount from the 70’s and some of it over a century old. This is unusual in Bodø as over 90% of the town was destroyed by Hitler’s Luftwaffe in 1941.
The busses were delayed and the weather was glorious, so I decided to walk home. I discovered a load of graded buildings with some interesting history.
This is the old hospital chapel, built in 1903. Quite quaint in itself, but the heritage plaque mentions it was a used as a vehicle workshop from 1942-1945. The area behind is known as “Tyskerhaugen” (“The German’s Hill”) and is full of WWII bunkers. So that it was obviously used by them.
Bronze statues known as “The Siblings”
This tiny building two minutes away from the chapel is “Likhuset” (tr. “The Corpse House”). So basically a morgue. Put up in 1903.
