Iron Heart X Simmons Bilt Horsehide Western Shirt - The Pale Rider - Natural
-
@goosehd here's what I determined after a whole bunch of experiments. I think oil only is best for this particular leather. Anything with beeswax or vaseline type stuff is going to make the leather rubbery. This tanning formula is really odd to me. I've handled over 50 leather jackets and I still can't figure it out. I think it's a veg tanned CXL combo or is veg tanned with thick top coat.
I gave my shirt another hand wash but this time didn't do any conditioner, and so far it's the softest it's ever been. Maybe it's just a combo of all the wears and work so far, but I think it's more about the conditioner unnecessarily adding more to the top coat. think this leather needs to breath and get exposed to the elements to really come to life.

I’m still on the road working, but my Pale Rider was delivered. I’m just wondering if anyone has paired theirs with white jeans? If so, how does it look?
-
@Vaperfavour1313 from snake oil provisions
-
@marco23d looks awesome white those white jeans! Amazing shirt
-
Talking about oils, I’ve just had a golden shower from my brake reservoir. Good way to tell you it’s leaking
-
@louisbosco Ouch. DOT4 or DOT5?
-
This is an improvement, shirt looks beautiful @louisbosco
-
@tody I’ll be going DOT5 when I fix and flush the system. But guessing if the previous owner followed the manual, it would be DOT4
-
@Nik I can’t see past it. Everyone says it goes with, but it’s bugging me at the back of my mind
-
@louisbosco So, glycol based. Google search on how to remove glycol stains from leather comes up pretty empty. I have no idea what would be involved in cleaning this...
-
I might be bugged by it too if it were me but I really think it looks fantastic. If you want the shirt without splatters you could brush down the whole thing in brake fluid.
-
-
@louisbosco that truly looks amazing and I’m soooo digging the authenticity of the stains. What a story!
-
@louisbosco Did you have a complete brake failure? Hoping not…

Post 2nd soak results:
Corrected the waviness in the placket.
Corrected the waist flare.
Leather is still stiff, but not as when new.
Fits like it did after first soak. Elbow creases and collar shape were retained.
Now it’s time to just wear the hell out of it.
-
@Autorotate dude! Wear that shirt while flying the helicopter!!! Legendary!!!
-
@goosehd thanks for asking, no I didn't. I randomly opened the reservoir to check and found it was empty. so I topped it up to check where the leak was. turns out it's the cap as the seals were wonky..
-
@Mizmazzle cheers pal. your shirt's doing brilliantly too!
