I bought a belt from IHG which alas was too small. Simple return, I thought. No sir-ee.
I went to UPS who quoted me $240 for the return - wtf.
Next, to USPS, at $29 - more fair. The belt traveled to lovely Germany, to Hamburg, just to sit in customs for a week. Now they’re returning it to me (hopefully) in the US for reasons which I’m not entirely sure.
While I’m overall happy with IHG, I’m not happy with the process. I will try UPS again if I get the belt back - but the shipping has to be reasonable.
What a nightmare. Measure twice, in the future…
In the meantime, I bought the right size through a UK stockist, which included shipping in the price. Just a lot smoother of a process.

@indigostiff
Hey Eric, It's very strange that UPS charges you $240 for a package to Germany and I can't explain it. We pay around €30 depending on the weight and size of the package.
Unfortunately, the belt is now on its way back to the USA. German customs is often a nightmare. Get in touch when you have it and we will send you a UPS label from us. -
@Iron-Heart-Germany Thank you IHG - very kind
-
@DrPat @Iron-Heart-Germany little typo ("SRING")
-
Hoppla...Danke Nicolas!

Hey Shane @Iron-Heart-Germany
any chance to see a rerun of the Iron Heart collab Slubby Heavy Flannel from the last year? Beautiful one. -
We've just had a large restock on jewellery from Peanuts & Co
-
a question has been hanging at the back of my head...
is there anything different shipping wise, between IH-Germany and IHUK? The order I did for the party tee and flannel got hit with VAT(double because EU VAT plus local). but this has never occurred on anything from IHUK. another order I did from moto-gadget didn't have VAT removed from the EU and I wasn't charged within singapore either.
-
@louisbosco IHUK and IH Germany are two completely separate entities and their policies would not overlap.
-
@goosehd no, I get that. but I was thinking more from a logistical perspective, as why would that happen. I believe one of the vat officers told me something about when shipping, they could select something to do with VAT charges on the buyers end..
-
I’ll stick with IHUK from now on. Just got a belt from IHG and while it’s a lovely belt I ended up paying for delivery, duties, taxes and obviously exchange rates. A 189 euro belt cost me over 500 Canadian dollars. Good thing I like the belt, but I’m sticking with IHUK.
-
I think it’s a bit unfair.. it’s more a EU or non EU thing.. if we turn the tables.. if i order something out of US or any other Non EU country i have to pay taxes.. 21% taxes and fee rate between 6 till 12% depends on the original price. Also @Iron-Heart-Germany refers to custom duties on there site like other retailers do as well. Some companies handle these things for us like IHUK or some other retailers but this is costing them a lot of money if i’m not mistaken. Still a bummer when this happens but it’s more a flaw in the whole system but that’s just my 2 cents.
-
@wielerj Just be glad it fit - mine didn't, and it's been tracking the globe since December.
-
@Heavy_blue I don't mind paying import taxes, but not double taxation. another case was ordering motorcycle parts from moto gadget in Germany and I wasn't charged any taxes on my end.
can't speak for all countries but my moto gadget invoice had the breakdown of item value plus eu tax paid. so I'm not sure if that was the mitigating factor in not double taxing

IH has a policy that sets a minimum price, so you should be paying the same price regardless of which retailer you buy from and which currency they use. Most credit cards charge a 1% currency conversion fee, which is pretty much nothing.
IH UK offers free shipping on orders over $200 and IH Germany offers free shipping on orders over 200 Euros, so that's almost the same as well.
IH UK only covers import duties and taxes for shipments to the EU. Does the UK-Canada trade agreement cover clothing? Otherwise, from the point of view of the Canadians customs, it shouldn't matter if your product originated in the UK or EU.
Perhaps you just got unlucky with this shipment?

Hi @Iron-Heart-Germany, are you open on Thursday? I’m visiting Berlin and I plan to have a trip to Hamburg
-
@Zee-Boo Yes, we are open.
