@Mizmazzle I listened to that John Prine record for the first time a few months ago after hearing a beautiful rendition of Mexican Home at a bar in Thailand.
Prior to that my only experience with his music was this cover of In Spite of Ourselves by Viagra Boys, which is possibly one of the best love songs I've ever heard (in a really unconventional sense...)
I just love the concept of celebrating a partner's idiosyncrasies and flaws rather than romanticising an idealised version of them.

@T4920 - love that song in all versions, and this one with Amy & VB is fantastic
-
@Mizmazzle Welfare Jazz, start to finish.
Thank me later

$6 well spent

@T4920 I've not heard of John Prine or VB - or even this particular song - but all 3 are quite amazing. thanks for sharing!
also i'm not the biggest fan of covers, but there are a few great ones out there (this woman's work by maxwell anyone?!) -- the VB cover is pretty good. I like how they make it their own with the twangy guitar sounds - adds a sadness to the track

@Inorganic John Prine IMO is one of the greatest singers-songwriters of all time, highly recommend a deep dive. Even his final album is magnificent. COVID took him. He was the first COVID death that really hit home for me.
-
@mclaincausey I've been listening to a few tracks throughout the day and I am digging him.
-
@mclaincausey he could turn a phrase and connect on a human level like no other story teller. I remember starkly when I heard of his death.

Absolutely beautiful @GraemeE
Original on Brain Records , this was on my list for RSD.
Curious to hear how you think about the remixes. Especially the one James Holden has done.Highly recommend Groenland Records by the way…
