@SKT I agree so much with this! I often get a little gate-keepery about what we had to go through when we were younger to even find music. Know a cooler, older person, have access to cool magazines, know a record store that stocked more esoteric stuff, etc. Chuck Klosterman said an interesting thing about buying a record back then being an investment. You didn’t have the ability to just try whatever you wanted because you likely just had a little bit of money, so often buying music meant committing a bit to a genre, digging into a culture. That said, I would’ve absolutely killed for Spotify back then. Is it better or worse? I don’t know. I think it’s neither, just different. Pluses and minuses on all sides. Anyway, I guess it all relates to our general tendency to think “my way is better than yours,” which as we know causes endless problems.

Re: Sky Blue Sky, man… that record is a big time fave of theirs for me. He uses that higher, forceful voice a lot, and it just has such a nice energy to it. Might have to pop that on the turntable…

@SKT I think that you are talking about John Bonham’s interpretation of the legendary Purdie Shuffle done by Bernard “Pretty”Purdie. A version of that drum beat is also used on Rosanna by Toto.

@Jett129 I was just referring to the Beato video where he plays a Bonham drum bit, then plays the same piece after it had been “corrected” by the drum software. Obviously the corrected piece had zero soul or swing.

@GraemeE I’ve been fortunate enough to have met and spoken to Bernard Purdie on two occasions and both times he couldn’t have been nicer,more personable and happy that someone would want to meet him. After the first time he shook my hand I didn’t want to wash it for a week.

I sing , Take a Look Around, Less than 3, Alternative Hypothesis, Amber Morning Sun and Matter of Survival. My friends band and he asked me to sing. It was fun recording them but I can sing them all so much better now lol

@popvulture no that's off an older cd but it's one of my favorites. He does have a new album coming out in mid august called "Thus spoke the fool" and he has released one single so far.

I am still amazed he isn't more popular. One of the best voices I've ever heard.
