After a couple of trips down to Viberg in Victoria and way too much overthinking, I finally ordered these boots tonight. The Muschio horsebutt service boots that I posted above really caught me by surprise and were/are very tempting. It ultimately came down to getting what I consider a grail pair of boots for me over a great deal. Don’t get me wrong, the Muschio boots are great at any price, but I’ve lusted over a pair of roughout boots with a commando sole for a long time. These boots ticked all the boxes for me. These pictures are from @brooklynclothing and I’ll post more when the boots arrive.

@Denman-John Those are going to age so nicely.
-
Had these in the mail today, not really sure if they are for me but have to say the build is stunning
-
@FlavourFade golden Brown Predator? They look lovely
-
@FlavourFade Those boots already look so awesome and they will only get better. I bet you could rock them no problem ~ let’s see a fit pic
-
@FlavourFade Those are so nice!! Love that leather,,,is that a 310? For some reason it looks a mix of a 2040 and a 310...
-
@Denman-John Loving these too!
-
@Denimhead-0 @Denman-John @Mizmazzle
It's a 310 in aged bark roughout. The smell and feel of the leather is fantastic. Also I really like the Last and the sprung toe BUT the stacked heel is problematic for my knee. Wore them a bit inside yesterday and still feel a little pain now. Will try again later and decide then.
Burg & Schild in Germany still have some sizes if you are interested
-
@FlavourFade hope the pain recedes dude. Those are incredible boots.
-
Horween Golden Brown Predators on 2040 last. Just might have found my most comfortable boot yet.
-
@Mizmazzle exact same here … love the 310 last.
If the right leather comes along, I’m all in on another pair.
-
@Denimhead-0 very nice!
-
@Denimhead-0 I’ve been looking seriously at the 2040 last. Great looking boot. How does it compare to the 310 as far as fit and comfort?
-
@Mizmazzle love em both, I like looks of 310 better but 2040 out of box a little more comfy. Need a little more time w em. Will report back as they are both keepers.

I’ve been wearing the boots inside in the evenings and I’m very impressed with these boots so far. My biggest mistake was going to Viberg and trying on their boots as it spoilt me. The good thing was I got the sizing right when it came time to order these boots online from @brooklynclothing Although I haven’t actually done much walking in them, they are very comfortable wearing them around the house so far. I really like the sleekness of the Commando sole compared to the chunkyness of the Vibram lug sole in regards to looks. With my RedWing Roughnecks, it’s very evident that it has a lug sole while the Vibergs look more refined while still having the traction when needed.
I’ve been a Red Wing fan for at least 30 years and always liked the look of the Iron Ranger with Hawthorne mule skinner leather. I’m not a fan of the Vibram mini lug sole that comes with them so I have shied away from them. I actually thought about getting a pair and getting them resoled in the past, which thankfully never happened or I wouldn’t have these Vibergs now. The Vibergs are also a step up in quality and comfort.
There is also something nice about having something that is made “local”. Most of the Vibergs I’ve seen in the wild here on Vancouver Island have been work boots (logging, ferry workers, etc.) or dress boots. I think these boots kind of straddle the line resulting in a very capable casual boot. I like the lugged sole as most of my walking is done on forest paths and dirt roads with some pavement when I go to town. My RW Roughneck boots have been main go to boots for the past few years (since I got them) due to it’s sole, so I knew I wanted a lugged sole when I bought the Vibergs.
I ordered some Saphir Super Invulner to protect them from water and stains and will spray the boots before wearing them outside. I know these boots won’t look like they do now for long and it will be interesting to watch how they patina. I was thinking of entering them into the Stitchdown Patina Thunderdome, but I don’t know if I can wait until Oct 1st to start wearing them. I also want to break them in as I am considering bringing them to Nepal and Thailand this winter…

@Denman-John I can’t wait to see the patina. They will only look better with age and wear.
