IHSH-397-IND - 21oz Sashiko Work Shirt - Indigo
-
@Anesthetist I'd be upset with those distinct fade lines on a brand new high dollar shirt. They should have pulled that one and any others that were "bad". I realize these are unique fabrics and weaves with deep indigo but that needs to be taken into account when being produced. Nobody would take a pair of jeans with that down each leg. Someone needs to comp you.

Whats the opinion on getting shirts altered? The 21oz sashiko shirt was too loose in the back and i just dropped it off at my tailor to add a small seem down the back to make it fit perfect. I know these are expensive pieces but sometimes the fit isnt perfect and alterations can fix that. A lot of small fit issues with sleeves being too long, or too tight can be solved with a $30 adjustment imo.

@msafrons I think the general opinion around here is do what makes you happy. Plenty of people get stuff altered — my only advice is make sure you have a good tailor, specifically one who can work with heavyweight material. I had a local tailor chain jack up a pair of jeans years ago (thankfully pre IH for me) and I learned my lesson there.

@msafrons I’ve altered an IH jacket and it made it perfect!! I agree with @popvulture Up to you to decide. But sometimes it can make all the difference.

@RubyRae I don’t think this will be an issue on the long run. It is like the creases you have on any other brand new folded shirt, after the first wash they are gone.
The colour is not altered by the crease itself, it is the fabric which is reflecting the light differently because of it.
After 48h of wear I can say that this fabric is like a snake with scales skin. It is a little bit shiny where it folds.
I am very excited to see the result after the first wash, not really in term of fading, but more for the texture of it. I think the cotton will evolve nicely because it is a very tight weave.
Just to say that these creases are not too worrying to me. I think it will disappear after 48h wear and the first wash. -
Well it's not to be. I had to try and contact 3 different retailers with stock of my size. Each store has the same horrid no refunds policy so I needed to make sure the measurements were ok. One place was quick and responsive. Withered Fig. However their last XXXL was over a half inch smaller than the posted measurements. I will not name the poor performers. The worst of which had 4 xxxl when I emailed. Sold all in the nearly 8 hours it took to garner a reply.
Iron Heart direct customer service really spoils a guy! -
This shirt runs small. Typically a XXL in ironheart (6'2" 225lbs). Could barely button the XXL. Ended up going with a XXXL.
-
@Blacksheep6x Proof that general vitals aren't everything. I'm 6'1" 230 this morning and my XXL (running slightly small per WF) was almost roomy on me.
But looks like you carry more of your weight in your top block whereas I've got more junk in my trunk.

@popvulture eagerly waiting the update and pics for both sizes. The suspense is rough when you need to wait a week for delivery
-
@Germinal That's good to hear, and happy for you. Sashiko is a fast fader for sure. You know the routine on wash to minimize any shrinkage. I'm anxious to see everyone's fades this winter after some steady wear! Enjoy

I picked up the last XXXL from Self Edge in Austin today. Tried on XXL and it fit with a t-shirt. But I wanted something roomy enough to wear a hoodie underneath. I just like a looser fit.
For reference I’m an XXL in UHF work shirt and and XXXL in the CPO IHSH-293-OD. I’m 6 ft tall and weigh 200 lbs.
My naive question: I don’t understand how it’s 21 oz when a UHF is 12 oz. Is it just a more dense fabric than the thrice brushed heavyweight flannel?
Either way, this shirt feels like it has some magic in it. Can’t wait to see how it ages over the years.

Mine came today! So very stoked!!
Normal size large.
This is straight out of the bag so rather stiff as far as drape. Absolutely love it!I once bought this toy for my dog. It was made out of reused fire hoses. This is exactly what this fabric feels like to me…only a bit softer.

I’m quite surprised so many people are sizing up in these. I’m 6’4, 190 ish pounds and the XL is quite roomy on me. I wear XL typically in IH and only size up to XXL in UHF’s as I need the extra length.
Mine was pre-faded in the arms too from rubbing in the packaging, it is what it is. My expensive Sashiko western from Ship John was the exact same in this regard. I’ll say that I MUCH prefer this fabric compared to the previous 380. I still don’t really consider these to be a true Sashiko, nice shirt either way!

I think the sizing up thing for me personally was a combination of A. suddenly hearing that people had been doing so at the party and B. thinking there were going to be a lot more available than actually ended up going on the IH site. So, I just kinda made that under-pressure decision to go with the XXL. I ended up missing the Germany party slub flannel because that one you actually DID need to size up on, and I hated the idea of that happening again. Ended up being unnecessary in this case.
I tried on the XL today with a tee and it fit perfectly. The XXL came but I won’t get a chance to try it on til tomorrow. That said, I can’t imagine it not being too big, but we’ll see.
Some people sized up and like the way it fit, and others just went with the usual and worked out fine too. Typical different strokes for different folks sort o thing, but I definitely learned that I should probably just stick with what sounds right to me vs second guessing.

100% / trust the measurements!
But really, your post is worthless without a fit pic
