IH-1955S - 21oz Selvedge Denim "1955" Vintage Tapered Cut Jeans - Indigo
-
@thevintagefuture my 888s spoiled me with room in the top block and a higher rise compared to previous jeans I've had over the years as a bigger thigh guy. I didn't expect these to have even more room than the 888s. It's not a significant amount more but it's something. Also after wearing 888s all day today and sliding on the 1955s I noticed a slightly higher rise in these. The rise and extra room below the knee are welcomed these days.
-
Also I'm comparing my 888 21od to the 1955 indigos so naturally the ODs will have smaller dimensions all around to their indigo counterparts.
-
@catdad1 thanks for the info! And that's interesting what you say about OD. I'll have to check out some OD next time I go to Selfedge.
-
Really excited for my pair to arrived hopefully today.
Looking great @catdad1 !! I think after wearing 555 almost exclusively the 1955 will be a new world
-
Just got my pair!! I am very excited about the 1955s. The wide cut is definetely something I need to get used to, but the comfort and mobility in these is amazing. Looks relaxed on me but not toooo baggy I think. Maybe I could have gone with a longer length than usual because I think a cuff suits them, while I am more a uncuffed guy in my usual 555s.
-
I think those looks great @FlavourFade id be very happy with a fit like that. Missed the 1955s this time round but will try to get some when I can
-
@jerkules thanks! I look forward to wearing them a lot outside work and when the 19L/xhs get too warm
-
Really gutted I couldn't catch a pair this year, especially now that the fit-pics are starting to come up.
-
They fit great. Look comfy too. I’m probably around your height so it gives me a sense of what they’ll look like on me. Mine just shipped wooohoo.
-
Got mine yesterday. I couldn’t resist wearing them to work, though that wasn’t actually the plan. Comfy straight off the bat.
-
@FlavourFade They look great on you, dude! Nice fit! And they'll fit even better as they soften up and get some washes. I'm a fan of the single cuff cuz it cuffs without covering the eventual roping you'll get. Love showing off that roping. I love the simplicity of the single cuff.
Mine are supposed to arrive today too! Hopefully before the sun goes down so I can post well-lit pics like yours haha
-
@Mister_Brue nice hahaha....Yeah, I'm telling myself I'll keep these stored for a few months until I progress further with some current fades I'm working on, but I have a feeling that once they arrive they're going to take over my entire fading game by force LOL. I think I won't be able to resist wearing them, like you with yours.
-
@EdH you checked The Shop Vancouver also? They still have many sizes left of the 1955.
-
@thevintagefuture I'm based in the UK and would feel bad about the jeans making two trips across the Atlantic. Plus I'll then be hit with import taxes at the border.
Some of my fun money is currently having to be diverted elsewhere so when these 1955s dropped I decided I had to prioritise the 727s (which restock even less frequently, I think I've been on the "notify me" since at least 2022) which are expected to restock this season.
But thanks for looking out for me!

Did yours arrive already ?
Yeah my experience is that after about 90-100 wears the 21oz gets to the "worn in" level as they start to show fades and get very soft. I think I will try to wear them to work once it gets too hot for my heavier denim. I just bought a pair of 555s-18 for the summer but I like to try the 1955s as a fade project . The 21oz denim, especially in this roomy cut makes a great all year round pair of jeans with being breathable but still having the heft
-
@EdH ooooooh I see the situation! Next time! And enjoy those 727s - I hope you get into the perfect pair after a long wait.

These '55 beauties arrived last night! I cold soaked them to get the starch out a bit, after I took these pics. They feel perfect on-body, but hopefully the appearance of a wedgie will dissipate once I wear them a bit and the waist and seat relax. Here are my pre-soak measurements for size 32 below. If I was as careful as the Iron Heart crew in my measurements, they would honestly probably match the IH sizing chart perfectly, which I'm finding can't be said of every brand. Pretty pleasantly surprised with IH meticulous QC...Shout to @profdbrk for being my sage guide toward this brand for the last few years until this day haha:
Pre-soak measurements:
Waist 16”
Inseam 29.9” (got them hemmed from 35" to 30" at Shop Vancouver)
Front rise 12.25”
Back rise 15.25”
Hip 19”
Thigh 12.25”
Knee 9.5”
Hem 8.5” -
Just got my 1955s in the mail and I love them - they are everything I was looking for in a jean. I have a long torso and fairly muscular legs so I was really looking for something with a higher rise. I was wearing 888s prior to this and liked them a lot but the 1955s seem to fit me so much better. The rise on the 888 was pretty low on me. My ass doesn't hang out of these and I feel like I'll be able to tuck a shirt into them without looking so sloppy.
I was worried they'd be too baggy in the lower leg but they have a really nice silhouette. Super stoked about these.
Pictured are the new 1955s and the 888s that are being retired.
