IHSH-307-OLV - 13oz Military Serge Work Shirt - Olive
-
Decided to conduct a little shrink test of this shirt today. I was happy with the fit over the shoulders, but the chest and opening were a little billowy for me, and the sleeves were a little long. The length was good (I’d originally requested the longest XL the crew had @30inches), but it also afforded me some wiggle room.
As advised by @neph93 (thanks!), I washed at 60C with 700RPM spin.
I was concerned that the wash may cause white abrasion marks, so I thoroughly soaked the shirt before washing. Here are the before and after measurements:
Shoulder - 19.1 // 18.8
Length - 30 // 29.5
Chest - 23.1 // 22.6
Opening - 22.4 // 21.8
Sleeve - 26.2 // 25.5I’m really happy with the outcome. I seem to have magically ended up with exactly what I needed: shoulders and length of an XL, with the chest/opening/sleeve dimensions between L & XL.
Also, while there has been some fading, it is minimal and in my opinion looks even better than pre-wash.
Hopefully this will be helpful to anyone looking to get a little shrinkage in certain dimensions with this material.

Great results

@jerkules nice dude, thanks for documenting. Haven’t washed mine yet but agree that it seems to have added extra character
-
Fade looks good @jerkules finally cool enough to break mine out.

Any idea if these will be coming back any time soon? Looking for XL or XXL.
-
@tangfj are you Stateside? If so Ironshop Provisions still has an XL and XXL in stock.
Yes, I'm in the US… thanks for that! Now just gotta decide... size just right at XL or give a little more room with XXL and shrink to fit? Leaning towards XXL... as I get older and especially over the last year my usual XL's are a little more snug than they used to be...

Ladies and Gents, I’ve been trying to slide into this shirts DM’s for the longest and I finally got my chance. Really impressed with the serge fabric, the smaller cuff openings, and the overall cut.
I must admit right out of the bag I immediately missed snap closure, but that feeling quickly faded and it’ll hop right into rotation with the rest of the lot.

Very nice @jordanscollected it‘s a great shirt. Mine did get a lot of wear time last summer. Love how it softens with every wear and wash.
-
Looks great, @jordanscollected
Is this shirt sweaty, or does it breathe well?
-
Thanks Rueben and Chap, work shirts are something I should lean towards in the future.
@weftyarn thank you sir. This was my first wear and it is a near record breaking 57 degrees today. I can’t speak to the breathability just yet, but many people have long history with the serge fabric.
