IH-731-KHA - 12oz Heavy Cotton Relaxed Fit Chinos - Khaki
-
That makes sense cause there is no taper from upper thigh to knee at all. The taper starts below the knee based on posted measurements.
-
Arrived and just managed to try them on.
The fit feels a bit roomier in the top block than my 21oz 888 jeans. My tree trunk thighs are not quite filling the leg on these chinos, whereas the widest parts of my thigh fills the leg of my 888s.
This is exactly what I wanted, because all my chinos to date have had to have stretch, which for me meant I looked like I was wearing khaki tights if I ever wanted to go for "smart casual".
Pockets are nice and deep - deeper than the 888s - so my phone sits on the front, centre of my thigh rather than off to the side, so the silhouette looks better. I'm able to lunge in these without my phone digging uncomfortably into my hip crease whereas I have to take my phone out of my pocket in my 888s to re-tie my shoe laces because the pockets aren't quite deep enough. I'll try on with a blazer later, but I don't think that these chinos will cause the jacket to drape oddly as it tries to get around whatever I have put in my pocket.
I'll have Mrs H take some decent fit pics later. But if you are a gentleman of a thicker leg (and bulkier arse) then these seem to be a winner. I need to get them hemmed before I can wear them properly.

Trying out some looks before I take the tags off - these are nice and versatile. So good to have a pair of chinos that fit me this well. Why choose between something that fits your top block or your waist when you can have both! If IH ever wanted to do these in navy too…
-
Dude, I’d wear the shit out of these cholo style.
I've had to Google "cholo style", but are you suggesting get them hemmed at 20' and wear with some XXXL hoodies, a white vest and Converse high tops?
-
That’s a superb fit @EdH
Had to google Cholo style as well. -

Not sure about the white vest and not necessarily a 20" inch hem but yeah, an overall looser fit with some chucks (could be low tops though), hoodie, flannel buttoned all the way up of course, or T shirt with a looser fit as well. Vans would work perfect too.
-
Might give 'cholo style' a go once they're back from the tailors.
… I went for a 31.5 in the hem.
-
Back from the tailors for hemming.
Perfect.
Again, if they were done in Navy also, insta-buy….
-
We’ll done @EdH
-
Superb.
Wore them a week straight.
Meetings with a blazer.
Some hiking with a t-shirt.
Hitting pubs with a shirt.Fit is perfect. Will use comparison tool to decide between 634 and 888 as these have 634 top block and 888 thighs?
-
You caught me working from home, so if it helps, @Matt, here's a pic straight on. Can't say that little bit of white peeking out bothers me, or that I ever noticed it before - I always wear these with a belt. I can't speak to the 9oz.
-
Not so bad from straight on. I think I’d wear a belt with these anyway so I guess that’s no issue. I don’t remember if Dickies do that. I haven’t worn them since the police academy.
So I guess my issues now are heavy vs light(er), selvedge vs non and 888 vs new relaxed fit. I prefer 888 and selvedge but the extra heft interests me very much.
Do we have a “This or That” thread? If not I should start one.

In @Filthy DIY spirit, a plastic card or something else that could withstand laundering could be stitched in to give some rigidity to solve that problem.
My preferred fix would be a CPO snap closure instead of the hook fastener.
EDIT: the first proposal may not work unless the hook were somehow affixed to the rigid insert, as I think about it
