@EdH sadly (or not) that is so true!!!
-
Nice @EdH ; we had tremendous luck with the Ferber method of sleep training, which basically uses graduated methods of engagement and avoids picking the baby up at all (well, most) costs. You have to be hardcore about it but it worked for us and a few friends.
-
@mclaincausey I think we're still a ways away from that. Mrs H read somewhere about a study suggesting that, in the long term, babies that co-sleep become better self-sleepers later, the hypothesis being their early experience of sleeping is more comfortable so that when they are the age where they are able to go the whole night, they are less likely to become unsettled.
Still, if she carries on like this then Ferber might win the day in this household!

We went with co-sleep ourselves which worked great for one of them…the other just about broke me. We couldn’t find anything that worked for about 18 months. Then one day everything got better…
She’s the best and worst of her mother and I. Wicked smart, fast, and stubborn as a mule. Only 7 and I can’t wait until she’s a teenager…

Just a quick example that I thought was genius:
She had an assignment in class in which she was given a value ($0.65) and had to determine which coins to use to make that value.
They were instructed to make etchings/rubbings of the coins to illustrate which ones they chose.
She used 2 quarters ($0.50), 1 dime ($0.10), and because the other kids were using the nickels ($.05) and she didn’t want to wait, she etched the dime again and only etched half of the image.
Her teacher didn’t get it, but my wife and I saw it and figured out her reasoning right away.
Half a dime is ($0.05) which in my mind makes perfect cents (sense).

@goosehd That's really good lateral thinking on your daughter's part! Very clever!

Your story has reminded me of a joke. The teacher tells the class I have a math problem...There's 3 birds on a wire,1 gets shot,How many are left? Johnny(Class troublemaker) raises his hand, and since he's the only one the teacher says OK Johnny what's the answer? None he says! Surprised the teacher asks how so? Well 1 got shot and the other 2 flew away from the noise. Not the answer I was looking for, she says, but I like the way your thinking! Johnny says I have a question for you...Three women are eating icecream cones, one's licking it,one's biting it and one's sucking it. Which one do you think is married? The teacher pauses for a second and says the one sucking it. Nope Johnny says, the one with the wedding ring, but I like the way your thinking!
