Insects

The picture is unfortunately only a zoomed in still of a short video I filmed with my phone at my parent's house. At first I got really excited because I was under the impression there is a humming bird in my parent's garden, which is highly unlikely.
I did some research and found out that it is a hummingbird hawk-moth - such an incredible creature! It was floating while drinking from a blossom.
The second picture is taken from wikipedia.

@RobeOfTheMagi wow what a beautiful photo of the hawk moth. My mom planted a butterfly bush in the front yard when I was a kid. I would often see them on it. So cool!
edit: My mother in law brought a clipping from her butterfly bush to my house last spring and it is growing strong. I bought a second one at a plant sale the other weekend, so hopefully in a couple of years, I will see some hawk moths again.

@SKT cool close ups

Tell me you live in Australia, without telling me you live in Australia

@cityofdelusion the irony is that those big and scary spiders aren't dangerous. In fact, a Huntsman will eat the more problematic ones.
-
@Graeme Wow. I have some woodlice and that's about it
-
@pechelman ah that's what they are called. I couldn't remember!

@pechelman right on man that's awesome. I live close to a river and they are all over here.
