@ARNC Sunn are soooo killer! The loudness is real
Btw I highly recommend you check out Jesse Sykes’ records — Marble Son and especially Like Love Lust(…) are fantastic. Jesse’s voice is so haunting and unique, and the full band setting really compliments it. Phil used to be in Whiskeytown way back when and I personally think he’s a criminally underrated guitarist.

@popvulture I had been warned about the loudness and took protection
Thanks for the recommendations for Jesse Sykes - I really liked her voice. All three were clearly talented but what came after was pretty much all destroying!

Whiskeytown
I thought I recognized her name but couldn't remember where from

Same place, very different setup …
… and feels like more familiar territory. Mew have been popping up in my peripheral vision for years but I’ve never seen them before. They brought the Danish Chamber Orchestra with them tonight. Another great evening - felt like everyone was having a good time on and off stage.

@ARNC Got me thinking of other interesting 'niche' acts you may enjoy, I've let opportunities to see Autechre and Oneohtrix Point Never at the Barbican pass me by previously, but when you opportunity comes again we should get tickets!
If you haven't heard it already, check out the Album 'Replica' by the latter, truly one of a kind, yet strangely familiar and nostalgic... It was made using many heavily distorted samples of commercials and clips from 80s and 90s television, so even if they don't register consciously, it ignites memories of the past deep within you!

@T4920 just looked up Oneohtrix Point Never and found this is happening tomorrow https://www.southbankcentre.co.uk/whats-on/gigs/oneohtrix-point-never?eventId=963661. Might go for it.
And thinking of niche, have you ever checked out Obscurify? Not sure if it means anything but I’m quite proud of my 99% rating.

@ARNC I've just seen that too, but sadly I have plans this weekend.
OPN (Daniel Lopatin) is truly one of a kind, it's amazing to see him start working with mainstream artists like The Weeknd, and scoring films in recent years. He worked closely with the Safdie brothers on the Uncut Gems OST (Amazing film!)

comical?
no, commercial, big money, big venue, expensive tickets and beers, greedy suckers

@T4920 yes, I enjoyed it but more on the level of appreciating it than getting completely enveloped by it. I don’t know the artist well enough (or at all really) to say how diverse the set was but from what he said, I think it was a good mix of old and new.
I’m sure there must be some good stuff going on in the East Midlands but I guess my location makes things easy. Next week I’ll be back to commuting and making do with listening to stuff in the car!
