Catch of the day [Fishing]
-
I will be doing a two day fly fishing trip with my mom when I am back in California next week. No clue where or when. It is all up to her as she is the pro, not me. I will be taking a shit ton of images as she is not allowing me to bring my phone, computer or any other electronics besides a camera…

If this does not sound too perverted (well, I know it does - in SOOOOO many ways), I want your mothers babies…...

What sort of fishing, Lando?
Fuck if I know. With a rod, water, and fish. Honestly, I have been fly fishing maybe once or twice in my life and know shit all about it. It is definitely a activity which intrigues me and that I have been meaning to get acquainted with. My mom is SERIOUS about it though and I am sure I will learn a lot. As soon as I have some more details I will post them up in here.

yea, hunting for sport doesnt really jive well with me. Sustenance is one thing, but just to mount a stuffed head on a wall is just sad.

It's a super complex question. I mainly fish for sport and i put the fish back. Sometimes though (like tomorrow morning I hope) I go Sea Bass fishing and anything of a half decent size will be on the table super-quick….
I dont see anything wrong with that. You do your part. Its the assholes who wear polarized glasses and snag/ intentionally foul hook salmon that bothers me. Im a catch and release guy myself, but Ill eat a trout every now and then that I caught. I think humans fucked up way long ago, we no longer have the option to think any other way other than sustainability. Anyone who doesnt is just a jerk.
But, back to Russell, I cant recall,100% but did I see elephant hide and rhino hide as options to have boots made up? Thats seems odd, considering their dwindling numbers….

Rhino hide, no. They're endangered and trade on any part is completely prohibited. Decades ago you could find rhino hide boots, but not these days. Elephant hide is possible, however, it's tightly regulated. There are only three or four African governments that sell hides and they do so under the constraints of the CITES (Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species).
Essentially, they only sell hides that come from elephants that died of natural causes or were culled for sustainable herd management purposes. As a result, supply is inconsistent and some years there is no production at all. That only controls the supply side; other countries and individual states can regulate the consumption side. California, for instance, bans the sale of all products made from elephant materials, regardless of the legality of the source. Enforcement is haphazard, from what I've heard, but people do occasionally get their boots confiscated.
That's what's legal. Whether any of this is morally right is up to the individual. As one of my professors once said, "Never confuse legal and illegal with right and wrong."

That's great Lando. Still trying to arrange some private time so I can go fly fishing with my brother in law. This just gave me some inspiration to try harder!
