IHM-37-GRN - Oiled Whipcord N1 Deck Jacket - Army Green
-
@samo you wont regret it these are fantastic jackets.
-
@JohnM the sleeves are shorter this year for one.
-
Decided after a couple of seasons that the conventional sizing advice on my olive oiled N-1 has me "okay" but too small, and the measurements on the new army green with slightly shorter sleeves has me trying out going up a size, maybe 2... Combine that with I now have a local IH retailer with Fountainhead picking it up, so I'm trying out the XL and XXL. I hear from them also that the army green is absolutely gorgeous.

2nd day of UPS saying it'll be delivered by the end of the day and still no sign of it:( I'm guessing UPS stands for Useless Postal Service!!
-
Another email saying it'll be here tomorrow. Fingers crossed

Got it today. Size L, I have enough space on the chest (108cm).
Great jacket! Does it look a bit too small on me with the lenght? What do you think of the fit overall.
-
@SashaDBZ looks great on you, and length looks perfect IMO.
How does it feel zipped up?
-
@Brandrea Thanks. It feels good zipped up with a t-shirt and shirt underneath, which is what I normally wear, no restrictions in the armpits.

So, went an a hunt the last few weeks compare the RMC N-1, the Buzz Rickson's N-1, and this bad boy in XL and XXL (from Fountainhead NY). And definitely came away with the (as expected) realization that the IH oiled N-1 is indeed the best for me. Just more substantial, and the oversized collar just looks great.
Definitely was the right choice swapping up to an XXL for this (from my old L in the old olive drab). The XL also might have worked, but I could tell it was still going to just be a bit too snug when layering. Just got tired of not being able to wear over a sweater comfortably, and wanted a bit longer of a body length. Maybe not the way everyone wants it, but I wanted more of the Paul Newman N-1 fit, which this is a little closer to now. I just like the fuller fit on this. I'm definitely happy this new model shortened the sleeves a bit, makes this work for me.

Looks comfortable rydor and love the Newman pic.
I have the Olive N-1 from last year -- is that the one you had in L?
I wear XL in IH shirts and the Oive N-1 in XL is a nice, roomy fit. And, yes, that collar is fantastic.
-
@JohnM Yup, the olive from 2022 actually but same pattern. I’m switching to XXL in flannels too for a much roomier fit that can be wash/dried for 20 years without ever worrying about shrinkage.
-
Makes sense re no fuss sizing. Preference on the N-1 color, Olive vs Army Green?
-
@JohnM Nah. They are virtually indistinguishable. And as an oiled cotton, you have to assume the colors on both will evolve.
Much more important I think the new pattern is more versatile.
-
rydor, by 'new pattern' do you mean shorter sleeves? Any other changes you noticed?
-
@JohnM Yeah, it's like 1-1.5" shorter in the sleeves across the board. The 29.3" XXL sleeves on the ODG would never have worked for me.
-
^ Got it. I don't have long arms, but am OK with the longish sleeves on my Olive N-1 in XL from late 2023.
I wonder if the sizing gets tweaked a little each year (not just this year, but in the past). I remember trying on a Large in 2022 and the arms were very long relative to the rest of the jacket. I figured the IH N-1 just didn't work for me. But a year later (October 2023), I tried on an Olive XL and it was perfect. I was fortunate to have a store nearby (Self Edge) to try one one. Measurements are key, but a little tricky with a bulky item like this.

Just got this in today - perfect timing to test out in this 17 degree weather. I held off on getting an N1 the past few seasons because I felt the sleeve length measurements didn't really work out for me, but this year I think it was spot on. Super happy with the fit. Wearing with a henly/flannel layer and no issues. Love this thing, and the color in person is so good. Also, shout outs Ironshop Provisions, you guys rock.
For reference, this is a size S - I'm about 5'7" ~145lbs give or take.

@jaasonmg Great fit indeed, enjoy it!
