Buying My Buddy a Gift...Surprise, It's Denim!!
-
This thread has made me want a pair of the OG 21 again. My first pair (555) were that denim and I loved it, but haven’t had a pair since. I’m up to my ass in jeans, so probably won’t get any until I “need” some more, but I think I’m gonna have to pick up some 634 when that happens. Will prob be in like a couple months lol…
-
@popvulture well, I was going to give a full wash with agitation. But thanks for your first hand account input. That’s helpful.
All my jeans are sanforized. My XHS, SBG lost a bit of length when I washed them. Suppose I thought it was just standard practice to give em a wash pre-hem to make sure they had settled to their final sizing.
-
@Mizmazzle time to rectify that.
-
@Mizmazzle I feel like whatever makes you most comfortable! Everybody’s experiences seem to vary. I have gotten a little bit of shrinkage in length on XHS, but it’s marked as to be expected because it’s sanforized but unwashed. Surprised you lost some length on the SBG, but then again I might be less inclined to notice because I always cuff vs hem, and my jeans never see a washing machine, always just hand wash in the tub. This is because my “top of the line” Maytag is a hunk of hot, sudsy garbage and I don’t trust it with anything I like too much.
-
@popvulture it's almost funny that there are so many great alternatives or special stuff like IB, XHS, sbg... That the flagship seems so regular... I was overwelmed with all the fabrics when I first got into IH and now I bought my first normal indigo 21 oz pair after several years and endless purchases with IH
-
@FlavourFade yeah it’s crazy comfortable, plus I love the way it fades. More subdued, yes, but I think it has a really nice, classic/vintage kind of look as it ages. It’s easy to forget sometimes when surrounded by all the shiny new options, but it’s the OG for a reason.

@Mizmazzle Im surprised youre suggesting the 888 he seems to have smaller thighs and no ass which the 888 has a large top block so he might find there is too much material once they break in...
-
Well, he came back by and chose the 888. I think they just felt the most in his wheelhouse style wise.
The 555 were a bit too slim.
The 666 the crotch was pretty tight/ narrow top block
The 634 felt too wide in the leg all the way down.
The 888 has a comfortable top block and a slightly slimmer leg due to taper.

Great!! Just to chime in on the soak discussion, the play here is to ask your buddy how he’s going to wash them! If he’s a hot wash and hot tumble dry guy, then y’all might want to do that before a hem, imo. Won’t be huge change there, but I think I’ve experienced maybe a quarter inch? I never take measurements though, so this is probably just combs.
-
@sabergirl excellent point on the washing methods. We did discuss that. He’s going to be a cold wash/ line dry guy…
-
@Mizmazzle I’m lucky in that they fit me out of the bag without hemming. They’re a touch long but I can cuff them if I’m not wearing boots.
As for the denim, give them a couple weeks of wear and they soften right up. I’ve worn mine pretty regular for about 6 months (no washes) and they are extremely comfortable. I don’t see any stretch in my waist, but I bought them to fit comfortably right away.
I hope he loves them, such great material and quality.

He'll really dig the 888s — I think they look really good on him. Fwiw I don't think you necessarily have to have a big butt / thighs to enjoy that cut, and just imo the way the 634s fit him in the seat were an immediate no from me. 634's my cut of choice, but I've had to send it back for a different size way more than any other cut of IH. The top block is weird in that one.
-
@popvulture totally man. 888 is my favorite cut and I’m a pretty thin dude. Love the room of the top block combined with the tapered slimmed down leg.
I think the key with the 888 is to size down as much as possible to get a slim a thigh as possible. In Matt’s case, he couldn’t have gone any slimmer in the waist so….he likes his chicken tenders and beer!! Haha
