Samurai will give good fades but terms of quality it lacks something, the top button came off annoy me.. then decided never ever again.
Brands like Pure Japan Blue, flat heads and iron heart I would bank my money on all day.

my only "Samurai" - S003JP YAMATO 15OZ SLIM STRAIGHT

I got one Samurai 710xx 19 oz and multiple iron hearts, most of them 634"s. The iron hearts feel more quality. It subtle, but is there. The 710xx though fits better that everything else. Its what i would of dreamed a 634 will fit me like. They are almost identical from the top block to the knee. Then the Samy has a slight more taper to the hem.

710 19oz will forever be a iconic Jean for me. They don’t hold up to heavy wear like IH do but a great jean.

Construction quality is not up to IH standards, but I have several pairs of 710 I really love. They make some outstanding denims, even if some of the special editions are a little gimmicky. Love these:

Old thread, but thought it reasonable to bump here given the focus of this post.
Fit wise, what IH would be most similar to samurai 19oz S710XX-II's in a tag 34? (lot 25 if anyone cares)
As measured the IH way;
Waist: 34.5
FR: 11.2
RR: 15.5
Thigh: 12.85
Knee: 9.25
Would be Hem at 31" inseam: 8.5Overall fit of the above, they hug the waist and hips very nice. If I could have them custom made, I'd add an extra .25" in the waist to be more relaxed and an extra .25" in the front rise. I'd expect that their snug new fit will break in and stretch about an inch in the waist. The thigh is pretty good. Definitely don't want too much smaller, 12.75 would be the minimum for sure, and probably anything over 13.2 would be too much. Also appreciate the knee on down in this cut, roomy enough, but not at all constricting, and with a light touch of taper and still looked slim'ish.
Am I crazy for thinking a 666-XHSib in a tag 35 or is the shrinkage too much that I'd be suffering?
Obviously the waist on this pair is the biggest departure, but from trying on and owning 21oz IH, there's not a chance in hell I'd ever fit comfortably into 25oz if it was 34.5" in the waist. -

You may find the 666 tapers a little less than Samurai’s 710, but it’s a pretty good match.
When it comes to sizing the waist on XHS, it is fairly straightforward. They shrink about 0.5-0.75” and will stretch out an inch. So you want to aim for a pair that start out around about where you want them to finish, or a little smaller.
Also, everyone suffers with XHS at the start. It’s sort of the point. The consensus is that it is worth it.

Thanks, neph.
What about the shrinkage in the thigh? I seem to see numbers all over on XHS from over .5 to .2ish. I know this isnt a science but trying to get a feel. Otherwise, with what you said it sounds like these could be good, though maybe a little big in the waist, which as a belt-wearer I don't care too much so long as it doesnt throw out the hips too far. The trimmer thighs give me some hope.
