IHM-03 - Whipcord N1 Deck Jacket (Black & Olive)
-
Nice nathan!
What color 20 and what size?
I am eyeing this jacket for next year…loving all the pics!
-
FYI, I machine washed this jacket at 30 degrees, it washed out a little pigment in quite a gratifying way. Very minimal shrinkage, if at all.
Thinking about doing the DIY wax/hot gun on it over Christmas, I've done this before with a Barbour so it wont be a cluster fuck disaster (well maybe).
-
(Hijack) grey large! Loving it. (/hijack)
-
Eager to see some waxing results
-
Extremely, I went through all last winter in the UK with the 01 version of this without a problem. Now in it's second winter and if you team it with a heavy flannel then you would have to be in some serious weather to feel a chill.
-
I've worn it with just a t down to 2 degrees Celsius (while walking I might add)…
-
I'll echo everyone else. I was out walking around in 30F's with winds gusting to 20mph and I was fine with just t-shirt and button-up shirt. Honestly, I would have been fine in just the t-shirt.
-
Ahhhhh… blue bags finally arrived.... Fit Pics when I get off work....

Wow BF! U dont mess around lol. I like the olive alot. I would really like to see these wax coated(or oil finish)and come a bit longer, especially in the xxxl's next time around. I dont like my shirts to hang out of my winter coats and most IH shirts are 31-32" long in xxxl and this coat is 30.7". I think it would b great if it could make it to 32-33" in the xxxl's next year.
-
BF, well done!!! I could not decide what I should wear

^ very cool bags, nice pick up.
marco thanks for pointing out the outer material used on the stevenson N1, i just looked at the images & kind of did a quick one-for-one & missed all those little details
[/quote]The Stevenson is super nice (although I picked up the IH in olive and was able to see both side by side at SESF). The Stevenson has a more refined look than the IH and the interior is completely Sherpa lined, where the IH has quilted arms. The Stevenson lacks a chest pocket, which the IH has and is a feature I like. I found the IH to be more functional and in line with what I want in a jacket. In IH fashion it's also completely over-engineered - everything about it is super beefy, and as others have pointed out it's incredibly warm. One thing that still throws me is the zipper being reversed, but it certainly doesn't bother me.
I wear a small in IH shirts, but went with a medium for this.

Fit
I'm approximately 180cm (5'11'') and 70kg (155 lbs) and ordered a medium, which is my usual IH size.
The shoulders, chest, and sleeves fit perfectly. There is plenty of room to layer my IHW-01 underneath, as
seen in the photo. I would have preferred a slightly longer length.
You can see the IH-W01 is slightly longer in both the front and back and I would have liked the jacket to have
the same length. The collar is tight enough to keep my neck warm without being constricting.Construction
The inside pocket is deep and the snap is secure but I would have preferred a zipper for additional security since this is
where I store valuables. The side pockets are not very deep and it's not possible to store much more than a hat or pair of gloves
in them. I already managed to scratch one of the snaps and like the way the gold base color contrasts with the otherwise black snap. The zipper has large teeth and and seems like it can withstand heavy use. More importantly, unlike the Riri zipper on my Wings + Horns
jacket which I did manage to break, it's not riveted to the jacket and is therefore replaceable. The pull is on the left side.
It seems that most American jackets have the pull on the right side but I've seen it on both sides in Europe. I prefer a right-sided
pull for no reason other than that's what I'm accustomed to.The fur is attached to the jacket with what looks like a white mesh. Since I've only had the jacket for a month I can't comment
on its durability, but no fur has fallen out yet. I don't like mixing brown and black and would have preferred a grey or black fur.
The sleeves are lined with quilted bronze satin. I hope they don't suffer from picking or pilling but even if they do, the inner-sleeve
is not a place which is easily seen. There is a tab with two buttons on each side which can be used to shrink the waist. Although I prefer the fit of the smaller
waist, I don't like the way the fabric bunches when the tab is configured that way.Weatherproofness
Weatherproofing technology has improved greatly since the WWII era and this jacket should not be expected to provide a
weatherproofness comparable to modern jackets based on membrane technology. Very light rain does bead up due to the
tight weave but anything more significant makes the jacket wet. It is very wind-resistant due to the inter-lining, storm
cuffs, and collar. I'm comfortable with only a shirt underneath for temperatures of -3deg C and above.I'm happy that the jacket is not waxed because I wouldn't want to worry about wax transfer. I could image this causing a problem
especially when sitting in a warm car.
