White's Boots
-
Has anyone else noticed a decline in quality from White’s over the last year or so? I got my five year old smoke jumpers recrafted in December and they’re not the boots they used to be. Not only did they rebuild them with the wrong leather, but the pull tabs are ripping off and the right boot just never really did fit right. Figured it would break in but I don’t think it’s gonna happen. I wonder if the Lacrosse buyout was the beginning of the end.

Decided to wear my MP in rough out waxed CXL today. I think they need a re-wax soon.
Such comfy boots.

Needing to get a boot with steel toe for work and am looking at whites or nicks, those who have had both what’s your recommendation. I have a narrow foot of that makes a difference
-
I have a pair of Wescos with steel toes. They are basically indestructible.
-
I’ve had sizing issues before and like that Nicks has samples they will se d you for fitting to make sure you’re getting a proper fit. Do you happen to know how wescos fit with respect to brannock measurements? I’ve done the trace and measure the foot with viberg before it was a mess so fearful of going that route again

Sorry, no clue on the Brannock; I haven't used one in forever. I'm consistently a size 10D in boots and I don't have any foot problems, so I'm generally pretty comfortable ordering online without extra guidance.

@tatmantall Depending on the boot/sole style you are after there can be some variance. I'm happy to have the conversation with you and try and narrow it down to a stock last size that may work for you. We can have a custom fit form sent out to you so that we can get an idea of your foot shape and see if we can line that up with a stock size. For that perfect fit though, going for a custom last really is the best route to go. Feel free to send me a DM or email me at alex.chesson@ironheart.co.uk

I appreciate you bumping this thread because I noticed something available from Baker's that was not available before. For a $40 charge White's will send you a try on boot too. @tatmantall
As soon as I can find a 11 x 17 printer I am going to place an order.

Anybody have some White's Hiker boots they wear with IH?
Been eyeing some service boots for awhile, but hiker boots are a little more my style. Curious how they mesh up with denim and flannel.

White's got back to me to suggest the build of the Clutch Cafe samples I bought on Monday are as follows:
Semi-dress
Lined white
Brown roughout leather (could be dry elk tan roughout though)
Brown smooth guesset
Add pull loops
Single row stch
55 last
Hc-700 sole
Logger heel
Single celastic structured toe box -
New semidress -
Thanks, the arch ease last is wonderful.
-
Looking good. Here’s an update on my semidress

Has anybody tried to get their celastic toe boxes removed (Like this:
)? Have gotten tired of the looks of my single celastic toe box in my Semi Dress boots. Contacted a high profile shoemaker (self proclaimed "shoegod") here in Germany who sells Red Wings und repairs Wesco, Viberg and such. Answer: Not offering that kind of service. Is it that hard to do? Any recommendations, maybe even in Continental Europe? -
Yeah, that's a shit ton of work. A full resole would be less trouble.
In the comments, they say they offer the service for $100, plus shipping, which sounds entirely reasonable. Maybe you could get them to do it?

I ordered a pair of Oxfords through Bakers. Should be here in 4-5 months. Looking forward to wearing them in the warmer weather.
