So I got mine — ordered from Withered Fig and got em to delay shipping until I got back from being out of town. SUCH a rad thing to come home to... and man it's crispy.
I'm super glad I got a L, actually fits a little better than my XL 19OD, which is a tad snug in the shoulders but perfectly fine. 2 questions though... was planning on giving it a cold initial soak because I wasn't expecting it to be big in any way, but I actually wouldn't mind it tightening up a smidge. I know some of you really gave it a scalding soak, but did anybody just try warm? Curious to hear how much it shrank if so.
Second, this thing is so crispy that the creases in the sleeves from being folded are pretty damn pronounced. I'm guessing they'll just get better with wear but I'm all ears if anybody's got any trickery for getting those out. Maybe just try to smooth em out as it's hanging up to dry? I do plan on putting it on when it's still a little damp to set some creases in the elbows etc.

@popvulture if you scroll up a bit, i posted before and afters from a very barely luke warm soak with zero agitation. Expect the jacket to shrink in the length dimensions by about ~3-4%, same as any other IH unsanforized or raw item. On mine, the width didnt really move all that much. Don't worry about the packaging creases. Once you soak, be sure to put it on while still damp, wear it just for a few minutes, really giving the arms a few hard good flexes. They'll nearly immediately set, then you can take it off and let it dry that way. It will feel like it's articulated just for you when dry with how well they set and how crispy everything else remains. At least that's how it was on mine.
Good luck and enjoy the fun!

Awesome @pechelman dude that is beyond helpful!

Also that sleeve/placket button trick is quite clever
-
Thanks! In reality it probably wasnt necessary, but felt like trying an experiment. Next time I'd make sure the other side of the cuff is tucked in a bit. It still splays open a bit more on the RH sleeve than I'd like, but it's starting to calm down. The LH sleeve that was tucked in more definitely sits close and tight even when unbuttoned which is pretty cool.

Man what a damn beast this thing is — warm soak, hung to try for a little under an hour in the post-apocalyptic Texas sun, worn a little bit while damp to get some creases. Quite a few broken blood vessels in my inner elbows just from scrunching it for a couple mins
The hyperbole is real. I feel like this could end up being one of the most fun IH things I've owned. Glad I dove in!

Day 30
-
@Mizmazzle I'm in NY
-
@Mizmazzle What's happening with yours?
-
@Setanta well, it’s being shipped from the Netherlands. Seems they are having one hell of an employee shortage over there so it’s been very slow to be processed in the shipping queue. Really hoping it hasn’t been lost in the shuffle. Damn shame to lose such a fine jacket to the infamy of the postal service.
-
@Mizmazzle It's amazing how often things eventually turn up, hopefully that is the case here
-
@Mizmazzle I have had long wait times with NL packages but they do eventually turn up. At least in WV anyway.
-
Yeah I’ve had some stuff get hung up for quite a while, more than a month, but it’s eventually showed up all but one time, and that was from Japan. And DHL, no less. Euro mail plus USPS can be slow as molasses, but I feel like it’s pretty dependable.
-
I’m feeling pretty confident about it. Suppose we all have our horror stories. Way more interesting to talk about at parties!! Haha
My lady once ordered a leather jacket from a shop in Canada. Somehow became lost in the system. A month later, just the shipping label and a scrap of a paper bag showed up in the mailbox. Haha. Jacket never found…only the small strip of salvaged packaging.

@Mizmazzle that's weird af my dude

IIRC the longest it took one particular package from NL was nearly 3 months. The sender has no control over delays due to customs. The long wait was so worth the monumental joy of finally seeing the beat up package haha.
-
Haha. That package has seen things.
