Luggage Bags and Packs

I dont know much about the Force collection but Tanker has been their bread and butter for a long time. But, going off of a product description on END, it appears that Force may just be a ripstop fabric versus their tanker nylon? However when I look at other images, Force looks almost identical to Tanker [emoji848] Sometimes, Porter designates a differently themed product line with similar or the same fabric by a different name. Sorry I’m not much help, but any way you go with a Porter product is a win/win. Their quality is really top notch. I think it was Heddels that did an article about them and the way they train their sewing team is INSANE!

Yeah I got a wallet and I think I need more gear!

Ok People, question about Porter Yoshida bags.
What is the difference between Tanker and Force Series?
Thank you!Did you manage to pick one up in the end?
Pretty sure the essential difference is the type of nylon that is used (tanker series uses the same type twill as the ma-1 jackets).
If you are still in the market for one then I would recommend going on Porters Japanese website, as there are so many more styles available generally.

Custom Bagjack L NXL messenger.
Saw the specs of this one on Instagram and was pretty much perfect for me.
Checkered tarpaulin liner (looks textured but actually has a smooth surface), carry handle added along with various attachment points including olive molle webbing throughout.
Multiple zippered compartments, two on interior and zip running along the top of the flap to allow ease of access into main compartment. Fidlock buckles (not used these ones before and they, like all the fidlock products I have used, are excellent).
Couple of pics with 10”ipad, 0.75l Camelbak Chute and a can of coke to get an idea of scale. Can fit more in but thought that they were pretty good points of reference generally.
Also pictured alongside a Bagjack NXL custom Sputnik.
One thing I will say is that Bagjack were exceptional at helping me pick out what I wanted. However, As soon as the bag was ordered, their customer service became excruciating. Possibly some of the worst that I have experienced.
The bag was supposed to take twelve weeks. That came and went and heard nothing so I chased them for an update. They said they would chase their production dept and that bag would be ready the following week. That came and went. Chased them again. They then said that bag was too complicated and that would take a further three weeks (could have told me that from the outset, as it was an existing custom option, so complexity issues should not have been surprising). That came and went. Was getting ready to chase them again and then the bag magically got delivered. No notification that it had been posted and to expect it.
Don’t get me wrong, the bag quality is exceptional. However, I would consider myself generally pretty easy going when things go tits up, but I think for the price, the level of customer service was not great. I was considering ordering another custom bag from them in the future but Im now firmly of the opinion that Im just going to give my hard earned money to Giles for some GA instead (i.e. someone that I know personally, like and who - along with the rest of the IH crew - offer an exceptional service).

I'll try not to piss you off in the interim then

Didnt know exactly where to put this one so here is as good as any [emoji6]
I’ve been using a GoodArt BLB for my house keys (plus a ton of junks) since they came out and it’s hard to beat. It’s secure, stylish, holds a ton, and it gets better with age. So even though it’s great I wanted to take a break and try something new. No real reason why but it’s like the thrill of a new denim cut or wallet I guess.
So Carryology came out with a collab w/ Orbitkey and it centers around the super magnetic Fidlocks. I have them on a bunch of different bags and they are great! Addictively snappy, fast, and super secure to boot. Love them and I had to cop asap. I got my keyrings today and here it is:
Notice that there is one male piece and two female pieces connected to different options: a carabiner or steel clip. The fabric parts are hypalon which should be pretty wear resistant as opposed to leather which could stretch or crack. The pieces are CNC machined and pretty overbuilt. Overall it’s a nice piece of kit
So as you can see on my BLB, I had a lot of little pocket tools like a JL Lawson bottleopener, flashlight, Tender button, and a damascus splinter for boxes, etc. I’ve carried some of these little pieces for almost 20 years but sadly because the magnets of the Fidlocks are so potent the steel bits become a nuisance and slow down what should be a quick process. [emoji37]
Here is the carabiner
And the belt clip
Both fit really securely and feel really functional for different circumstances. I’ve subbed out the damascus piece for a Fred Perrin titanium key and added a Jeff Hall ti bottle opener. The brass lantern is ok for now but as the clip is steel it may be trimmed. Anyway will be giving this a shot for now, my BLB is pretty sad looking so we’ll see how long it lasts [emoji23]
Sorry for the long winded review of a friggin keychain, but if you’re into this kind of stuff I hope it was worth while!

My Ortlieb addiction continues.
I have been searching for the perfect bag to wear whilst lure fishing from the shore. I have a fantastic technical fishing vest/flotation device, but it forces me to cast and retrieve, in a slightly unnatural position, the result is a bit of golfers elbow, so I will reserve that for when I am fishing off rocks or in the surf or on my own in any slightly dangerous situation. This new bag will be for when I am wandering around relatively benign environments. It is waterproof, light and has plenty of storage space, though it was designed primarily as a courier bag, does not have as many internal pockets as I would like. I'll play at loading it up tomorrow…..
-
I’m also an Ortlieb fan. Their bags are all I use for motorcycle trips. I have three of theirs in different colors/sizes, and just pick the one best suited for the trip duration/gear needs. EXCELLENT stuff.
They have relegated all other previous bags to the storage room. -
I dont really use anything else. @Madame Buttonfly doesn't really get them or get on with them, so we sometimes have to travel with what I consider to be lesser mortals. But when I travel on my own, it's all I'll take…

I’ve looked at the Billingham Eventer Bag for a long time and luckily this week I found a low miles used model on the Bay. Condition-wise the bag has the right amount of patina to keep it from looking brand new but has tons of life left in it. I spent some time painstakingly applying Mustang Paste to the leather bits and boy is it beautiful.
The stitching is gorgeous (like a fine watch strap) and the leather feel and quality feel very high end. The canvas is also very nice. I was expecting a thick twill like Filson bags it’s a bit thinner and a lot finer. It is supposed to be fairly water repellent as well.
I’ll mostly be carrying the bag as an overnighter so it’s more than I needed for that purpose but will be a good all around addition to my carry.
Btw does anyone have a good source for Mustang Paste? I’m about out and my local leather shop woman owns a horse ranch so I’m sure AF not asking her…

My Ortlieb addiction continues similar to @Giles
I replaced a standard 110 litre Mammut cargon duffle bag with an Ortlieb RS wheeled Duffle in 110 litre flavour. The non wheeled Mammut duffle when fully loaded was a bit too heavy for comfortable travel. The RS looks to be a good replacement as it is one of the lighter wheeled duffles available. The RS saves weight by not using a full telescopic style carrying frame and handle. The RS has an aluminium base plate and a simple strap style handle to pull the bag with. There is a larger 140 litre version but I chose the 110 litre model as I had read that some airports insist on the 140 litre bag being treated as oversized luggage. The 110 Ortlieb bag is at least 20% larger than the 110 litre Mammut bag it replaces. Ortlieb litres must be larger than Mammut ones??
I have also bought my daughter a 34 litre Ortlieb RG roller duffle for her Birthday this coming week ( she will be 10 and wants to replace her old "babyish" travel bag with a more grown up bag ). The RG bag comes with a full aluminium frame / baseplate and telescopic handle. I am hoping she like it, fingers crossed.

Looks like some amazing high quality construction on these Ortlieb bags. I would like to see one in person some time to really check them out. As a luggage and carry geek I feel like I’m a little late to the game on this brand.
I’m sure your daughter will love her bag. We bought my 10 yo a Rimowa carry-on she is thrilled not only to have a piece of adult luggage, but one that matches ours. It’s funny how she has decorated it and babies it [emoji1]
