Face Masks
-
Hey guys, I'm surprised that this thread doesn't already exist!
I've been hunting for a good face mask lately. My wife sewed up a few for the family using some scrap fabric but I wanted something with a better looking fabric.
I picked up this Runabout Goods mask that's made out of 9oz Japanese woven wool/cotton blanket lining. It looks great and is surprisingly easy to breathe through:
Here's their site:

Though I actually bought it through Urban EDC Supply here:

Those look pretty decent!
We've been using some Outdoor Research masks with filter inserts we bought from REI. They feel the "safest" ones we have. We also bought ones from Patagonia that are good for hiking.

I like those Outdoor Research ones! I don't think I've seen them. And I like that they take a filter. None of mine do that. Did you just buy them online?

Yup. Ordered from REI. Came really quick. I feel like $5 for 3 filters is a little bit much though, considering we're going to be wearing these things for a while.

Also maybe I'm a psychopath/hypochondriac (guilty as charged!) but whenever I see a mask advertised as "breathable" I think "oh well that means it's easy for THE VIRUS to get through."

Ha! I'm no doctor but you may be onto something. I'm definitely going to check out some of these with filters.

I'm a fan of the Paloma Hayes masks. I have a few that I rotate through each week. They fit my fat head well and don't fog up my glasses too much.
I snagged a Ship John mask back in March that is nice but I prefer elastic straps so it doesn't get as much wear.
However, with how gnarly the surge is lately I've just been wearing an N95 with a good seal because there are anti-maskers everywhere.

the only place where I can think of which mandates mask where I live is at the apple store. In Perth and even Australia to a certain extend, we've never come to a point where masks were mandatory. And now, we have been 7 months of a covid free community and enjoying life as normal.
So I can't really say I know how it feels to be a mask wear or an anti mask wearer..

I use the Orbitgear ones.
They come in different sizes and the 3 is quite oversized, wide enough to fit my face and long enough to accommodate my beard well.
Machine washable, do not fog up glasses and also easily adjustable.

You're really fortunate to not be in the US.

Not mandatory here either, unless you are on a plane. Strongly encouraged on public transport or places were social distancing is difficult. I have a pack of N95's for my family that we can dip into when necessary. I'll be following along here and picking up a couple of fabric masks at some point, preferably with a filter pocket.

I have runabout goods mask too. They also make a strap that snaps to the ear straps to take pressure off the back of the ears. I've found it very helpful for prolonged wear, though at work i wear the medical one as it isn't so restricting on the breathing.
-
@jordanscollected that's cool! I did see those straps but I wasn't really sure how they worked with the straps that come with the mask. Doesn't that behind-the-head strap end up over-stretching the built-in straps?
