Holiday Traditions

Amanda and I like to go to the beach on Valentine's Day. Last year we went to Ocean City, Maryland and while we were there, we visited Assateague Island. We saw wild ponies in the marshes.
This year we are going to Bethany Beach, Delaware and have rented and Air B & B house that allows dogs. Of course we will bring the puppies.
Say what thou wilt about V-Day, I love it because I get to spend quality then with Amanda. I love her so much.

Nice tradition you have going there @Oaktavia! Enjoy your time with Amanda.

@Oaktavia Bethany was our annual beach destination. Our babysitters dad had a house on Jamaica St right on the ocean. We really miss it. Check this place in Rehoboth out for date night…

And this one in Dewey for awesome beer and an amazing bar food menu (I highly recommend the octopus lo mein)…

@Oaktavia – From one giant softie to another, that sounds like a dream come true dude. Enjoy your time out there! Les & I have some summer traditions (river time), fave spots to check out (L.A.), and some fave activities (eating at shit diners), but don't rly have any holiday traditions. Well, other than Les is OBSESSED with Christmas in an … almost unhealthy way?
Oh and she loves hitting the pumpkin patches every year in Half Moon Bay and checking out the Pumpkin Festival. She even has a pumpkin beret lolll. Here's a snap from 2017:

OK cool we will check out the restaurant your recommended, I love me some octopus.
We went to Dewey a few years back for our anniversary and while we were hungover with tea and coffee on the balcony, we saw a whale swimming with dolphins in the ocean. It was amazing!

Speaking of being a softie and octopus, I too love octopus but took it off the menu because they're so intelligent. I remain an inconsistent hypocrite because I've not shaken pork from the menu. Man a good octopus a la plancha is something I do miss a lot.
Speaking of being a softie and Valentine's Day, I proposed to my wife on Valentine's Day. It was not one of these elaborate things done in a scenic locale. I basically woke up, rolled over, and did the deed. It just felt right. I had been waiting to meet her family before proposing, but a few days before Valentine's Day I decided that, given that the woman was already living with me, tradition could go out the window. I visited my favorite jeweler and found the ring. I estimated the size (nailed it) and kept it in my nightstand drawer. I'd casually asked her where she went the day before when she disappeared for a few hours and she seemed caught off-guard. She later explained to me that Valentine's Day Eve that she was out getting me a Valentine's Day gift. I was really itching to propose by now, so the next morning 6AM I wake and roll over and ask her what she got me–it was a sweet card and a book on cosmology (she knows this nerd well). I said, "I got a little something for you too" and gave her the ring box and proposed, the both of us sitting in bed. Somehow, this worked, perhaps because I caught her completely by surprise (which was important to me, because I knew how much she loves surprises).
So Valentine's Day will always be special for our family.

@mclaincausey what a lovely story

@Chap wowie I would love to display one of those types of masks in my house. So neat…would be fun to attend!
Krampus can be wholesome!…well, hmm maybe not. Either way, nice photos and tradition @neph93 @Chap
I love the whole Krampus thing and revel in the pagan roots of Xmas as a bit of necessary mid winter debauchery [emoji1]
Hell yeah broh

Every year I swear that I’m done with big trees and every year I do it again. Really don’t know how much longer I can do it, but the oldest helped tremendously this year. Took three of us to wrestle with it…
Plans are to put lights on this evening, move it to the corner and fill the reservoir with water, and decorations will be placed tomorrow.
