Watches - another OCD problem
-
Mmmmmmmmmmm, might have to get one of these, I may actually be able to tell the time without fumbling for my glasses…..............G
Do it G. Once you go Panerai any other watch will pale in comparison. Just like IH for denim!

Wow Dexter, you have been through a few, haven't you? Gotta agree with your final choice, too. The ultimate in simplicity- not even a second hand.
Seems like it may not be final after all. It never is…
Yup, the Panerai is my fave !
Cheers
TTNice choice on the 111!

The only other watch I really lust after, IWC Big Pilots Watch.
At £8500.00 it's gonna have to wait a while.

I swear, Triple, it's like you're in my head. I, too lust after the Big Pilot. I was in Las Vegas a while back and wandered into Bellusso in the Palazzo. It was deserted, so I ended up talking watches with the lone sales guy. After about 15 minutes, he started handing over various lovely things for me to try on; Vacheron Constantins, Breguets, Glashutte Originals, even a tourbillon from FP Journe that cost damn near as much as my house.
As wonderful as they all were, the only one that I really wanted was the IWC.

The BP is a good watch. The new dial is cleaner but I also like the previous generation, 5002.
The only thing that bothers me about the BP is the way the crown guard can dig into your wrist and the leather strap/clasp is setup backwards. The tail goes on the underside of your wrist, opposite direction compared to PAMs.
Just some pet peeves. I'd still be happy if I owned one but I'll probably spend the $ on a Panny instead.

I got my Panerai from The Watch Gallery on Fulham Road in London.
When I was being 'introduced' to my new watch the salesman, very much like yours, bought me other watches to try on, and like you the Big Pilots blew me away. It was the 18ct white gold one, about £16000.00
Desire is important !

Dexter- I definitely like the new version better- cleaner dial, better hands and it always bugs me when the date window doesn't match the face color. True about the diamond crown. It's a hefty thing with sharp edges. I'd put an onion crown on it, personally. But then I'm not a designer for IWC, am I?
Great first real watch, too. The Valjoux 7750 based movements are always fun. I had a Hamilton that visibly wobbled as the rotor spun when I moved my wrist the right way. I used to do it in meetings just to keep from dozing off.
Triple- yeah, the white gold is really nice. It has such a beautiful luster to it. But, oh, the price tag…
Hectic- C'mon and join us over here on the dark side. You know you want to.
Balls are really nice, I always liked the Trainmaster Cannonball. I'm a sucker for a white face and blued hands. -
I've got pretty decent sized forearms and wrists so I've never been a real big fan of small watched so that pretty much counts out any vintage watches for me. Thankfully there are a ton of brands now that make much larger faced watches. My current daily timepiece is the TSOVET SVT-AT76
I'm a huge fan of this watch. Probably looking to pick up a U-boat watch next. -
Maybe they're going for that whole perfection in the imperfection thing, haha.
-
Hectic- I suppose you could get a tiny screwdriver and fix it. I didn't notice it until you mentioned it, but now it bothers me, too.
T&L- I expect you're looking at the Thousands of Feet models from U-Boat?
On a random side note, Dave Holmes from the show "Holmes on Homes" wears an older model U-Boat Classico. Yeah, I'm that kind of watch nerd.

Chris - Nope, though I do like that model. Too similar to what I've already got, I'm more interested in the Flightdeck models, gotta get a round face watch next.

Don't ask me how I found this site, I'm too embarassed
