@Heavy_blue yeah man! We’re getting married in Italy. Which is a big part of the frustration. The cross cultural planning and communication can be brutal. Then we travel Italy for a few weeks post wedding. I’ve been toying with starting a Mizmazzle’s Italian Wedding thread. Highlight IH presence throughout the whole wedding and travels!!
-
@Mizmazzle love the idea man! You should definitely do that! And Italy.. the place to be.. good food and wine and coffee

No advice (I think I’m immune to love). In my worst moments I tend to think of marriage as the original pandemic! In my better moments I have huge respect for people who can make it work and recognise they have something special (but not something I want) - really hope that’s how it works out for you. The Italian adventure thread sounds great!

Gotta do this. ^
I’ve got tons of thoughts on this whole subject but would need a brain more organized than mine to work them into coherence. We eloped is about all I can remember. Seemed to work, we celebrated 20 years in 2022.

I know she was losing it on the regular leading up to the wedding but she always has something she’s losing it over so this was just the drama du jour. I mostly tune it out so I don’t have any funny anecdotes. Except the time she emailed my sister in law about not wanting my step mom at the bridal shower because of what an awful bitch she is and they were devising an elaborate story to shut her out. Unfortunately they neglected to take her off the email thread. In the end that did the trick just fine.

@jordanscollected Jeff!! This is the best marriage psychology ever!! Hell, I may pick a few fights myself come FW23!! Saw a real nice brown UHF at the Berkeley Supply party!! I’ll def let her know Jeff said so!!

Man, lots of good stuff in this last little bit — I appreciate the perspectives. I'm neither engaged nor married, nor do I have kids (@Mizmazzle I 100% feel you on loving kids but not really wanting your own. I just don't know how I could handle em). Just wanted to add to the general sentiment that relationships are a ton of work, but they're worth it for the right person. I feel like the one I'm currently in is the first time I've truly been with someone who gets me and is kind, understanding, considerate, all of those things... that said, there are big bumps at times and in this case I'm sure it's worth the effort to talk them through and persevere. All I know is that all of my other relationships, some of which were more "fun" at times, all were littered with red flags and ended in balls of flame.

@popvulture you’ve put this very eloquently my friend. Had my fair share of crazy ones. Always fun for a bit. Then the fear of god sets in and you have to sell your house and get new phone numbers then spend the next 12 months peeking through your blinds when random cars drive by. It’s all about a good balance.

@Mizmazzle sounds like a movie script.. well the story I heard today is a good one as well. A female co-worker of me has a relationship for like 2 years now. Her new boyfriend has a ex who worked at his company and she grabbed €150.000 before she wen’t out just stole it.. the co-worker and her man wanted to buy a new house and then found out his ex just stole 150k and they are not able to buy the house.. ex girlfriends..

Well said @popvulture! I was fortunate enough to elope with my wife. We were married by a judge in Swede Hill pocket park near downtown Austin and we had threw a party a few months later on Valentine's day for friends and family. The party was stressful (and expensive) enough and I can't imagine the challenges that a big ceremony would present! Congrats on surviving the tempest @Mizmazzle, hoping for smooth roads ahead for y'all!
-
@goosehd I'm sure you've heard it all at this point, but ginger, turmeric, and lotsa zinc, my friend! Also, just hope ya feel better soon

@goosehd get well soon Dennis
