^^^ agree
Everytime i put on XHS after UHR I'm surprised with how soft and heavy they feel and then when I put on UHR after a long time in XHS I'm surprised by how stiff and tough UHR feels. They feel so much different than the fabric weight would imply. Though if I was pressed to only have one of them I know which I'd choose without too much thought.

I feel that as others have said, you’re going to want both.
UHR feels more vintage to me. It starts off as a lighter blue, and fades super quickly, faster than any other IH I’ve encountered. It doesn’t seem to have much directional/vertical type fading, which is what gives it the aforementioned vintage feel, or to me at least. My pair is super comfortable — might be a tad less so than XHS, but I find the difference negligible.
XHS is comparatively a lot darker to start, and results in these really cool bits of vertical fading. This effect is unique to me; I find that slubby jeans take the vertical thing way too far, while on XHS the texture is something that emerges with time. Plus, the blues that begin to pop are quite electric. I love giving them a ton of wear before the first wash, then seeing all the cool details that pop out after. They’re pretty stiff and gnarly when you first get them, but they begin to soften and mold to you quickly, ending up very, very comfy.
To me, XHS is the goat, without question. I think the IB is definitely fantastic, but would prefer the regular indigo if I had to pick. Something about dyed wefts on any jeans seems to cause pretty significant textural changes, and while I love those jeans, my faves will always be regular indigo.

Yep, they remind me of old Levis fades too. Another one that comes to mind is APC — they were probably the first pair of selvedge jeans that got me super interested in the fading. The way my UHRs are coming along remind me of those sorta smooth, old school fades in the best way.

@Oaktavia Here's what I'm finding and they may be an extremely rare pair:
@Graeme said in Your biggest Iron Heart regret:
Just before the Loom Breakers were released, there was a pair of work pants sampled in the indigo / indigo canvas. They never made it into production, but the sample pair fit me perfectly.
I have no idea what happened to them. They never came up in any sample sales, but in retrospect I should have talked @Giles into selling them to me.
There have been a few releases that I liked the look of, but would be too warm for Australia. The IHM-38-OLV is a current example.
As for the IH-436, I got a pair from the last run in a size 34 during the pandemic. Due to being a bit fat then, they didn't fit me, and due to my gym habit, they still don't fit me. They're a weird cut. I probably should stick them up in a sales thread.

@Graeme you aren’t talking about the double indigo duck work pants are you? Those were in production I believe, unless you’re talking about something else or unless I’m mistaken. I know that’s what G has.
@Graeme said in Your biggest Iron Heart regret:
@Matt they were probably more like the Engineer's jeans. I remember them being double stitched in orange thread.
@Giles Care to chime in and confirm...
@Graeme This is from the sellers description:
Good Condition. These are precious work pants with orange triple stitching that are pretty cool.■Size:W32, Waist/16.5in, Inseam/34.6in, Hem Width/9.0in,”
