I should note that’s how my wife, a professional event logistician and expert caterer, says it, so I can deal, even if I wince when I hear it. It’s quite common. It would be like pronouncing “bolognese” Bo Lo niece.
Now let’s talk about “realtor” being mispronounced real it or. That one is nearly ubiquitous in America it seems

I suspect much of the reason for our linguistic divergence is simple pettiness. For “aluminum/aluminium” IIRC the scientist with the naming rights couldn’t make up his mind and each of us settled on a different version.
I say we should have just gone with “alumium” and called it a day

@ARNC It seems like a deliberately, even excessively positive piece of writing, as opposed to a balanced evaluation. But my perspective will be different to that of a visitor. And it is nice up here, by all means, but there are a lot of glaringly obvious things about the town that she ignores or underplays. It is for example really fucking ugly, with the exception of the library/concert hall.

That was never going to appear in the final article - not unless the writer is planning to retire soon!

We are in Port Louis on the other side of the river from Lorient. The town is stunningly beautiful, but I have to say they could take a leaf out of Gosports book.
Here are Gosports public WC's:
And here are Port Louis's, I checked and there are not even any sharps disposal bins, Jeez, Port Louis, get with the programme....
