I should note that’s how my wife, a professional event logistician and expert caterer, says it, so I can deal, even if I wince when I hear it. It’s quite common. It would be like pronouncing “bolognese” Bo Lo niece.
Now let’s talk about “realtor” being mispronounced real it or. That one is nearly ubiquitous in America it seems

I suspect much of the reason for our linguistic divergence is simple pettiness. For “aluminum/aluminium” IIRC the scientist with the naming rights couldn’t make up his mind and each of us settled on a different version.
I say we should have just gone with “alumium” and called it a day
