Freenote Cloth
-
@Mizmazzle love the cut on this, I assumed the denim is heavy and crispy? I've seen similar ones online but seem to be described as a 'denim-like' fabric.
-
Gorgeous coat! I have a Freenote Cloth Heavy Mariner in olive that I love. The Mariner has wool lined sleeved sleeves and I wondered how you liked the quilted lining on your coat.
-
@Hefner Thanks! I like the quilt lined sleeves they make it easier to get the jacket on when already wearing a long sleeved shirt. The quilting has some insulation but they don't feel quite as warm as the body does. How do u like the mariner? I was considering one and the ih n1 but ended up going with the RJ-2.
-
@pmadison95, I love the mariner and highly recommend it. I like the alpaca in the sleeves. The pockets do not have a wool lining, which probably would have been nice for warmth, but might have collected dirt, lint, etc. It is a great jacket for the cold.
I think it would be hard to justify getting both the mariner and the RJ-2, but I am going to try my best.

I picked up the 14oz slub deck pants in black and they were stuck in Louisiana for 3 weeks after the rare snowstorm. Finally arrived and oh man I’m impressed. The top block fits like the IH 888 cut. And they have a nice straight but not too wide leg cut. The slubby canvas is soft and really hefty it seems heavier than 14oz for sure. My only gripe out of the bag is that the front pocket bags are a bit shallow for my liking, but time will tell if it becomes an issue. Freenote is a great complementary brand for the IH fan.
-
@jordanscollected those look great, Jeff! I've been wanting to pick up a pair of those same pants for a few years now and just haven't pulled the trigger. Think it might be time.
Side note, I ordered a beanie from ISP and it also took a couple weeks to arrive due to that storm.
-
@jordanscollected - I also have a pair of Freenote pants - brown denim actually - think they are 14 oz. Picked them up from Blue Owl when in Seattle on business. Cool store, but they don't carry IH
.
Portola is the cut - it's a taper - similar to 888 as well IMO. While I also agree their pockets are too shallow for my liking, the construction and materials are top notch.
I also own a handful of 9 oz tees from Freenote that I like for summer - they are a touch slubby but moreso just drapey. I feel like the neckline is a bit too wide, but they do have some unique colorways and the length of the shirt is nice and long (assuming you like that sort of thing).
Solid brand. Very southwest US motif for a large portion of their goods.
-
@MTpockets that SW motiv you mentioned may be the answer to why Freenote’s neck openings are larger in the t-shirts. I have their 13oz tshirt and I love the material, but I also don’t love the large neck opening. Honestly my Bravestar T-shirts are my favorite for everyday wear. Cheap and well constructed and a small neck opening. They make a sumo 13oz t that has a nice hefty drape.
I originally bought a Ranch in pecan brown but it had sat in the store window and was Sun damaged upon arrival so I sent it back and opted for the chinos instead.
-
Thanks for the heads up on the Sumo T. I’ll give it a shot.
My fav T these days are my Samurai - I have them in black and white - the one with the little red work clothes tag on the chest pocket. Small worthless pocket but the fabric is beefy yet still a true t-shirt material. Collar is also nice and tight.
The other Ts I wear fairly often are my warehouse slub Ts. Those are very nice too. Also great collar.

The new Rancho shirt in bleached indigo denim corduroy is one of the coolest Freenote pieces I have seen in a long time.
-
That does look like a very cool shirt. The main drawback for me is the manufactured vintage look. I prefer to do the work myself.
-
@guiltyparty I just saw this on their website. I really like it.
-
I’ve decided to delve into the world of cyber space influencers. I’ll need Freenote to send me one of these to put through its paces and more than likely be buried in. I’ll consider it my one and only commission project and devote total and complete time to documenting its evolution and allowing the fat cats of Big Selvedge to use my rugged and illustrious image to sell 1,000,000 units world wide.
-
@Mizmazzle holy schnikes! First time seeing this piece, doesn’t help that I’ve already for the toscanello Lou’s to match….
-
-
@SourPower this thing is nuts, right? Looks like a tank too.
-
@Mizmazzle Saw that a while ago, and loved it, what an awesome looking jacket
Tempting for sure, but I'm already overloaded with stuff that deserve to be used. -
@JunkPants same here! PLus that price tag is a hard pill to swallow.
-
@Mizmazzle True! One of the nicest jackets I can remember seeing though....... Damn.
(Do let us know when you've given in, and it has arrived on your doorstep)
I also tend to love looking at, and buying, leather jackets, but then end up using denim jackets or M65s 99% of the time......
