when I stopped drinking lite beer sold big, Heineken was exotic and Chivas was top shelf.
Now the world is filled with Japanese single malt whiskey aged in old port barrels and theres more kinds of beer than you can shake a stick at . -
I didn’t know Banhez has an arroqueño! Their Espadin is a great one for a sub $40 bottle.
I didn't know about the arroqueno, either. When looking for a value bottle, it came down to 2, the Siete Misterios Doba-Yej(espadin), or the Banhez Espadin. After choosing the Siete, I dug a little deeper into their other offerings, and came across their arrequeno. The flavor profile seemed right up my alley. So, I went looking for it. I found a local shop, an amalgamation of bar/liquor store/tasting room. They didn't have it. But, they did have 1 bottle of the Banhez, that they ordered for another customer, 3 months ago, and had not been picked up. Having a little knowledge of the brand already, I gladly took it off their hands. I'm glad I found the shop, too. Very cool people, and very receptive to acquiring products they may not have currently. Good thing, because I foresee a good Tobala in my future…

@Jett129 Christmas season and Santa saw your wish and told me to PM you later.

Man, it's been a good week. Black Friday, I went to one of my favorite shops, in hopes of obtaining a limited release, or allocated bourbon. First come/first served/one bottle limit were the rules. Of course, a line had formed. I was fortunate enough to get the last bottle of Knob 18. As a bonus, everyone present was given a raffle ticket to win the rights to one of three additional bottles. #winning…..
@Jett129 , can I assume you'll be drinking this one neat, as well ?
-
@Jett129 it smells (and tastes) amazing. Lots of honey, caramel, spices and dried fruits on the nose and palate. Perfect for this time of year.
I hope you have something good to hand for the holidays!
Dude,I’ll be right over. Having Maple Old Fashions made with a limited Edition Makers Mark bourbon and Maple Syrup that’s been aged in 23 Year old Pappy Vanwinkle bourbon barrels. Really quite good!

Well this New Year was a little different, I came back from a couple of weeks away at work with a stinking cold, so rather than a proper drink at midnight to celebrate the New Year I had a Lemsip instead. I did have a small nip of Bruichladdich 2010 Bere Barley to go with it.
Happy New Year to you all.

A Christmas gift to myself is a bottle of Brig O Perth, sherry cask finish special.
Brig O Perth was an old blended brand of whisky from Perth based wine merchant called Matthew Gloag and Son. The shop and brand disappeared. The brand name became absorbed / owned by the Edrington group (Macallan, Highland Park, Noble oak and Wyoming Whisky).
The Brig O Perth name was sold by the Edrington group to one of their ex employees Keith Bonnington.
This bottle is an 11 year old Blair Atholl that has been finished for 3 x months in a "Vino de Color" cask.
Vino de Color’ is one of the oldest Sherry Wines of Spain. And the cask they used for finishing the whisky is around 150 years old – and is believed to be one of the few remaining to have contained the concentrated syrupy, dark, rich unfermented Pedro Ximinez grape juice and Dark Sherry mix.

Can anyone recommend me a good smooth Brandy?
-
@the246guy Philbert Rare Cask Sherry Finish Grande Champagne Cognac
-
@Inorganic , it's quite lovely. Fantastic nose, and by far the easiest going down, of anything currently on my shelf...
-
@scooter I hope to try it sometime. Out of curiosity I checked online and the closest we can get in Oregon is the 12yr. Have you tried Eagle Rare? That is the one that I always go back to - (for me) it is so balanced and smooth.
