Thrift Store Scores

@Inorganic is it bad form to ask which flea market you go to?
I'm always looking for new spots to check out in the Portland area -
@Mizmazzle ha! I am going to type a letter to my parents and see how much of a pain that is. I haven’t had a pen pal since the 90’s. Is that still a thing anymore? It would be cool for my son to try that.
-
@GraemeE no problem at all. I go to the Eagles market every Sunday pretty much. Have been going for over a decade now (even found a $30 pair of wesco’s 6yrs ago!!) It’s in a sad state now vs it’s glory days (ie lots of stolen stuff & a reflection of Portland’s woes as of late) but there are a few gems to be found from time to time. It’s from ~7a-1pm, Sundays @N Lombard & N Exeter up in St Johns. Come thru & let me know when you do if you wanna check it out - or let me know what you score!
-
@GraemeE for the sake of posterity to remember when the Eagles was at its most special. I picked up this Jacob sheep skull there a few years back. Clean it up, drilled it out, welded up a holder and it now watches over my home office ( & prolly was the catalyst for a few nightmares for my son!)
-
@Inorganic I may have to make a trip over to that side of town on a Sunday - I live deep south but work in inner NE so I tend to hit up Lombard at least a few times a month on weekdays to pop by Too Many Records or the Goodwill
-
@jordanscollected so Jeff, this thrift shop-where did you say it is?
-
@steelworker Ed, most of my stuff was thrifted by others and handed down to me. I have very little patience for digging through dusty piles of clothes and shoes while my wife looks for paintings to add ghosts to.
We spent a bit of time in vintage clothing shops down in New Orleans but most of what i found for men was old Montgomery ward's union work shirts in size XS or XXXXL and extremely scratchy Pendleton wool shirts.
-
@Mizmazzle I don't want to use the "I" word around these parts but I'm just thankful I didn't have to resort to something made out of particle board that I would have to assemble myself
-
@Inorganic love that skull very 666, makes me want to get one! maby we should start a taxidermy tread? I have a couple of contributions
-
@scarfmace yeah this skull is rad! From the underside it has elements of a human form which I often trip out on. This is the only taxidermy piece I have, I’d love to see yours.
-
kind of a lame post since i dont have pics as this was many years ago, but i dont think i have ever topped finding a complete silvertone 1484 at a goodwill. was in school for electronics engineering at the time and my professor helped me get it working. i was young and broke so ended up selling it for rent money years later at a fraction of what they go for now even with the reverb we never could figure out how to get working...i also once found a silvertone bobcat in a dumpster. you guessed it, sold that for peanuts too
-
I picked up the below with tags at Buffalo Exchange right across the street from Self Edge LA a few years back, $14 for the two. I ended up selling them for a good %, that was for sure.
-
@Cents-or-Non-Cents that's a crazy good score!
I bought this from a local flee market last weekend:
it's a Campo del Cielo astroid weighing in at about 100 gramsNice reminder we are all just spacedust, floating around the big void
-
@Inorganic I have quite a few nice pieces but not gonna photo bomb this tread, here are some of my favorites. If more people collect taxidermy, many we can start a tread?
PS: most of these are thrift shop scores so it's still a bit on topic
